Just recieved a offer from Western Alliance Bank for a Senior Business Analyst role. Comp 100k but the role would be in office. I currently work remote, have unlimited PTO,and a really healthy work life balance but am being underpaid tremendously. The new role seems like it does not have healthy work life balance and many red flags have already come up. I want to grow my skills and wouldn't mind being in office as I do miss being around people. How do I vet the role before accepting?

@Op while your assumptions lie grounded in certain truths you are describing the so call "model minority" myth which is a divisive way of thinking and creates further unnecessary tension in the progress for racial justice. Case in point this convo, your thinking is based on the logic "if we can do it why can't they" essentially which plays right into the rhetoric created by those to further divide minorities in America. I only took one Asian American studies class in college so I'm not expert but google it for yourself to further understand the struggles of Asian Americans in this country and how your continual perspective doesn't serve to bring together allys. Asian Americans like all other minorities suffer from the glass ceiling, yes we have gotten ahead in education but like others we are underrepresented in all sectors of leadership. Not to mention AAs are never in the race conversation and left out of the discussion. Point is minorities should be coming together in this country especially after this election and spewing out the model minority myth doesn't help the progress #staywoke
Ah missed my point I wasn't advocating sticking it to the white man that's not how our country in my opinion will move into a post racial society. My point was there's no need to kick another group down just to get ahead - what you are exactly doing by perpetuating this model minority myth. Yes I do agree everyone needs to work together and you shouldn't feel guilty of your success. 👍🏻 I think you have your heart in the right place but i wanted you to see how much divide you can create with your logic. P.s Asian people are very racists - we just talk about it behind closed doors and don't actually act on it.
PwC OP, that, and the non-refugee Asian migrant is in many ways a much more self-selected and privileged group than immigrants from other parts of the American continent, or enslaved black Africans that built communities here. Comparing the obstacles that have faced Asian immigrants and other minorities in a lot of situations reduces to a comparison of apples to oranges. Your statement implies that other people of color don't work hard, do you think that?
Because people with work ethic and self worth vote for TRUMP!
So true. They care about low taxes and getting kids into good schools. They don't like affirmative action, Obamacare and illegal immigrants
*Makes blanket insult*
*gets called out*
*yea whatever [repeats insult]*

@SC1 wow you're the worst. At least you're consistent in your idiocy. You must really live in anguish thinking that every single person who's opinion differs from yours is a privileged white person who wears a white hood and burns crosses. That mentality absolutely contributes to every societal, racial issue we face today. Congratulations you fucking played yourself.
I think the real issue is they are in the $250k + tax bracket. My Indian cousin in Virginia leans Republican for the same reason.
Damn sc you are one racist fucker
As a thought exercise, OP, think out how differently it may have played out if Europeans had settled SE Asia and decimated 90% of its native population, and then enslaved all of it for hundreds of years before forcing it into remote pockets of the continent. The challenges are different, the resulting culture is different, everything that arises from that situation is vastly different from the challenges facing Asian immigrants in the United States.
Segregation also continues to play a significant role in limiting the opportunities of minority youth - P5, I would check out the two This American Life Podcast episodes on it: "The Problem We All Live With" part 1 and 2.
It may help to get to know some if you don't. It's. not scary, I promise. We don't eat people. I mean, I don't. Can't say much for my cousins in these hellish inner cities.
@OP you can gargle bleach for all I care fam - you still dismissed and tried to win the oppression Olympics but when I hit you with historical facts and pressed you for answers you sidestepped. FOH.
@P6 you clearly didn't read what I said, can't comprehend, or you dismissed it. either way - don't care 🤗
As honest and real as this topic has been, I do enjoy that fact that provided insight and background to educate others on topics most feel we should not speak about.
@SC1 Asians Americans were also in the civil rights movement and served as important allies - see the works of Richard Aoki and Yuri kochiyama. I think OP believes in self reliance which is a value that is often passed down from having immigrant parents. Maybe this is what Black Americans need to embrace more ? 🤔 I'm honestly trying to have a open discussion here because I recognize the oppression of blacks in this country but it seems like there are different values in the community too
To answer the original question A1 posted, yes, OP was right to say many Chinese are fucking racists, think of themselves as pseudo-white, hate illegal immigrants and social welfare. They want to protect their share of pie, which anyone would do. However, to say Chinese worked harder or endured more hardship than other immigrant groups, I don't think so. Everyone's story carries different significance to their POV. And TBH, if were for African Americans, we are still riding on the back of the bus. (Chinese Immigrant here)
White cis male here- hoping these conversations continue to develop and evolve over the next 4 years. Bickering aside, loved reading this thread. Excited to further educate myself.
Read the entire convo and all I can say to @SC1 is - I wanted to be on your side because I get where you're coming from but even as you complain that this is an unproductive forum for dialogue you were the most ineffectual with you aggressive insults and assertion of your own opinions and interpretations as facts. If you want to be heard, learn how to listen.
@SC1 you just reinforced my point. Tried to help you but some people don't want to be helped. Moving on.
@SC1 you don't seem to understand nuance at all. I tried giving you constructive criticism on how to deliver your valid viewpoints in a way that will influence others. I thought you wanted people to listen to you, but if you just want to be a blowhard then go right ahead in the same manner. Carry on.
Also I figured out the issue. It's not that you don't get nuance - on the contrary you read too much nuance into expressions where none exists. Like I said - I get where you're coming from but your delivery could be improved if and only if your objective is to spread knowledge and further the dialogue which you claimed numerous times throughout this thread.
At @D4 I feel you. I've gotten into the same exact argument with @SC1 in other posts. Delivery is always off and when you call it out the only response you get back is ignorance with a mix of woah is me. Sucks cuz I see value in what @SC1 says sometimes but then you gotta take a step back an realize sc1 can't structure thoughts without being on the defense and thinking the world is out to get him. I'm sure SC1 will tell me to stfu or have some ignorant comeback but again it's like arguing with a child.
