Mom here with one kid, looking for a reliable and low maintenance car. Would a Tesla 3 be a good choice? I had a bad accident and I am traumatized to drive since then :( also, hesitating with an SUV like the Audi

Get a Volvo or Subaru if you’re worried about safety and maintenance

like

Mercedes for sure. They’re low maintenance too

funnylike

Depends. Do you own a house so you can charge every night? If not, go with gas. Reliable and low maintenance would be a Toyota

like

My apartment building has Tesla chargers in garage. You don’t need a house.

One kid? Any midsized car will do. For reliability and economy I’d go with a Toyota Camry, rav4 or Highlander

like

You really don’t need anything special until you have 3. Then I highly recommend a minivan for about a dozen reasons 😁

Love my Tesla model 3. Fits two car seats perfectly. Ample space. Wouldn’t buy anything but a Tesla

likehelpful

How much did it cost you if you don’t mind sharing?

100% rav4

like

Acura, Volvo, or Subaru if your chief concern is safety. Acura, given its Honda backbone, would probably be the most reliable out of the three.

Also had a bad accident recently and totaled our Honda CRV but it’s safety hooked me as a lifetime buyer.

like

Anything Toyota!!

like

Honda CRV all the way. Unfortunately I’ve also been in a bad accident with that car, was T-boned By a larger car and the only damage to my car was a door and the front bumper

like

That’s good to know!!

Lexus

I’m a Mom of 2 with a Model 3 and I love it. It is low maintenance and feels very safe. Plenty of room for car seats.

like

If you’re (understandably) scared to drive and prioritize safety, why not start with a list of the top rated cars for safety. Filter by general style and needs (SUV, coupe, sedan, all wheel drive, etc) and budget and see where that leaves you. Then read reviews/reports on other features, see what looks best aesthetically, etc.

like

Tesla is as safe as you get

like

While Tesla has come a long way in reliability, they are not highly rated for cost of ownership on the repair side and reliability . There is plenty of readily available information on highly reliable sedans/suvs etc. everyone on here will have their anecdotes but your answer is in the data not anecdotal responses (including mine regarding Tesla)

like

I love my Chevy Equinox. Otherwise Volvo. They are great! My hubs works for them currently.

like

Subaru Forester. Subtle and extremely safe. Love mine! Not going to lie though, looking to purchase a Toyota Venza next year. It’s a) Toyota b) Hybrid c) AWD.

like

Have an outback. Definitely love Subarus.

like

Who works at GH who can afford a Tesla?

Happy holidays! What kind of craziness is everyone putting up with this year? I’ll start — my MIL told me my daughter scowls too much and that she needs “baby Botox”, and my sister just announced that she’s bringing the husband she’s been separated from (and that no one has spoken to) for 2yrs. My best friend & I got pregnant around the same time. We didn’t know the other was even trying - just a happy surprise. But now I am going through a miscarriage and I don’t know how to feel. Lots of jealousy, but I’m still so happy for them. I knew it was a possibility (1/4 pregnancies end in miscarriage) but why did it have to be me? I don’t want to go to her gender reveal next week, it’s still just so painful but I feel like a horrible person for harboring these negative feelings towards her.

I found out today that my employer doesn’t offer any paid parental leave (maternity or paternity). This isn’t a major issue now, but my wife and I are planning on trying in a year or so from now. How many other employers don’t offer any paid leave at all? Coming from public accounting this seemed outrageous to me, but curious to see what other companies are like.

Father in law has had a lot of frustration, getting included in two mass layoffs in two years and taking two straight 40% pay cuts at the end of his career. We're so excited to give them something to look forward to.

First time mom-to-be here, just found out I’m pregnant. Feels like there are a thousand things to do/think about and I know we have time, but not sure how to prioritize. What did you do first, and/or what do you wish you’d done in your early stages of pregnancy to prepare?
