Moms need advice/ tips/ suggestions…. Going back to work next week (ending maternity leave). Baby is 5 months. Husband wakes baby around 6am and feeds/ dresses baby. I do drop offs and pick ups. We both will get home around 530pm. How do you split duties between cooking dinner, feeding/ bathing and putting baby to sleep?.. Also there are some evenings husband wants to workout since I workout in the morning. Ideas?..

We do meal prep over the weekend. We protect workout time for each other and also try to give each other one night a week where we are off duty. Sometimes this means during family time someone is doing dishes or cleaning up but we tag team that too as sometimes dishes feels like the break compared to the toddler 'tude. Biggest thing is we check in regularly to see if we need to adjust for each other. Minimum of a monthly cadence to check in on things including how we feel like the balance is

Depended on the day. For us, having a strict ‘your jobs vs my jobs’ didn’t work out. It’s more of an ebb and flow, every day is different thing for us. Lots of times I wore baby or had her in the pack and play in the kitchen with me while I cooked and my husband worked out. After dinner, he’d take her up for bath and I’d do dishes. Then I’d come up and nurse baby and get her down for bed. But there were days he skipped the gym and watched baby while I cooked. Or he cooked. Or if I was tired, he did dishes while I put baby to bed. It was always a conversation about what we both wanted/needed to do and then figuring out how we could get it all done. Some days I do more, some days he does more.

My wife cooks for us and works out in the event while I handle the bed time routine - dinner, play, bath, nightcap, and book on the way to sleep.

Going to bring this up to husband. Thanks so much for sharing!

When we only had the one kid and she was a little baby we’d typically bath her together around 630 (nice time together after being away from her all day), then I would do the final feed while husband cooked dinner and then we’d eat together after she was in bed (usually at 7). We would get workouts in either midday at office gym or later afternoon but before nanny left. Of course now we have a three year old and two year old and it’s a whole other ball game!

Great!.. thanks for sharing. Will have this as an option.

Ha. Mom here. I did all of the above.

Really?!.. did you have any resentment?

Is it mandatory to name the child at time of birth at hospital or can we name them later. Thanks

My wife and I just had our first child and as she was waiting to be vaccinated (we went for her first shot on the way home from the hospital), we told both sets of parents to wait 3 weeks before flying to come see us. Understand that’s upsetting but her parents couldn’t handle it to the point that they stopped talking to her for three weeks half way through the pregnancy and then after saying they understood, flew to her sisters place (2 hrs from us) without telling us then called after..cont’d

Expecting our first baby soon. What are some things/gifts I can get him or things we can do that will be special, that he can use throughout childhood or even remember throughout life? Feel like we’ve been scrambling to nail the essentials to keep him alive but haven’t done anything else because work has been so busy. Any special recommendations?

Mothers, how do you keep your life going / live your life for yourself without having all your time sucked up by work and kids? I grew up with a doting stay-at-home mom, so I don’t have many examples of what balanced motherhood looks like. Also, it seems like American society erases your entire identity as a human being beyond “mom” once you have a kid, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. Thinking of having kids someday, but worried I’m too selfish to go for it.
