Hello Gang, I’m on the business side for Walmart right now. Walmart Global Tech recently offered me a role to move to the San Bruno office, but I’d be taking a demotion from L6 to E5. YOE: 8, COMP(200k base, 25% bonus, 100k RSU). Is this competitive in the bay? I have Doordash and Instacart in the pipeline, but no final offers yet.

Wow a Harvard MBA and IBD experience. Such humble beginnings

Divya probably - she took his/her seat.
Can we just appreciate OP’s intention here? Maybe the execution wasn’t the most relevant for general population on here but still it was thoughtful and meant to be motivational
Divya comes from a humble background and a non IIT Indian school which is not feeder for HBS. I think what OP is trying to say is if a POC woman can achieve that we are also capable of doing great things.
She had two highly sought after pre reqs - how is this motivational at all...

We’re not all “Divya”.

Did you put it in quotes because you spelled it wrong?
just goes to show that if you get a harvard MBA and have at least a year of IB experience, you can land juicy exit opp and rise to the top! soooo inspirational! definitely wouldn’t make me feel worse about not getting into harvard or IB...
She overcame some hurdles - woman of color, got into HBS, got great roles - great role model and super motivating for me.
It’s easier for a woman of color to get into HBS. I don’t have that privilege unfortunately
That's nothing bruh. Ron Johnson declined investment banks to work in shipping and receiving at Target out of HBS. literally a job a high schooler could've gotten. Ultimately ended up co-creating the Apple store with Steve Jobs and running JC Penney.
Yea not his best work... too ambitious. Can't run JC Penney like you'd run Apple.

Was this meant to be inspirational?
Hey everybody... you can do it too if you grow up attending an exclusive private high school, go to one of most selective MBA programs in the world at Harvard, take a very hard to get job at an investment bank, spend 14 years in industry, have your husband grow into a partner at a major hedge fund, have a 7-figure household in your early 30s, then become CFO of one of the largest companies in the world by age 39.
I think Dhivya is amazing. But not everyone has her ability or access to this path.
Agree, post is well intended, poorly executed...

Another motivational point. You can be Dhivya Suryadevara, but 90% of the population will not know who you are or care. External recognition and validation is a worthless pursuit so do what makes you happy and feel fulfilled.
Agreed.
Look at her LinkedIn: she literally had a promotion almost every year, not to mention a strong background pre mba

Why did she take that GM job? That wasn't clear
Rising Star
Why did she take the job is an open ended question. I provided you with reasoning for why it wasn't a step down, which is what the post is stating as the logic for why this is an inspirational story. If your question is theoretical, why does anyone take a job?
Btw, GM's Treasury department is a very strong industry role. Interviewed with them during my MBA, as well.

How did she get into Harvard's MBA program? Just curious if she talked about her path. It would be impossible this day and age, so wondering if it's the timing or other factors.
If you can get into IIT , getting into HBS or any top 5 MBA is not that difficult. Infact MIT, Harvard have to reject many qualified indian or asian applicants to balance the diversity in the class. If you see student body of these schools you will get the picturem
I didn’t think I’d need to clarify the intention as I had assumed I was surrounded by a bunch of intelligent individuals.
Case in point is that someone with an elite college education and elite post-MBA job accepted a position that’s available to almost anyone graduated from a top-100 MBA, instead of her feeling entitled to a director level exit.
Not sure about director level exit but recently i heard some Harvard lady wanted people to exit the life and planet earth. Thats what i called entitlement.
Define 'early in your careers.' I know a lot of us will be working past 60 if in good health.

She was around 23 years old when she graduated HBS. I was a 32 after b-school and came out as a director... not everyone is on your schedule
TLDR: Failure to launch.

You know that you can have a full time job and get a degree at the same time right?
Rising Star
Who said it wasn't? I'm just stating that it's either a co-op, which nowaday will be billed as 0 years of FT exp or she went to school full-time while working full-time in assurance. I'm not sure how slow assurance work is, but it's not possible to go to school full-time and work in consulting full-time. I'm just highlighting that the times have changed and this type of experience isn't possible anymore.
