I’m going in a couple of weeks and from all I’ve read and been told, Casablanca doesn’t have much to see. Instead I’m doing a desert safari for 2 nights to go from Marrakech to Fez.
Took a 9 day trip to Morocco earlier this year. Flew in and out of Casablanca because it’s cheaper and easiest, but spent virtually no time there. Similar to what Deloitte is suggesting, I’d recommend this 1-2 nights in Marrakech, 3 day/2 night desert tour (with night in Sahara) from Marrakech to Fes (would recommend doing 2 night min—Marrakech and fes are pretty far), 2-3 nights in fes, and no more than one night in chefchaouen, there’s very little to do there other than take photos, you can also do a day trip from fes but it’s a bit of a long drive
Casablanca is a City much like NY - lots of office buildings, taxis, hustle and bustle, but it also has a very touristy beach area. There is an amazingly beautiful mosque built on the water, I believe it is Hassan the II. There are awesome markets everywhere, and cafes literally every 5 feet.
Marrakech is my favorite city in Morocco - Ja Melf Na is the huge market everyone knows, whenever you see something about Morocco on TV they are there! So during the day that market has snake charmers (seriously cobras and rattle snakes), henna tattoo artists, shopping upon shopping, the best fresh squeezed orange juice and more olives than you can imagine! At night the whole center of the market turns into a food bizarre - go hungry!!! If you happen to be in the market for a leather jacket, or even if you are not, go get one - they are so reasonably priced and they are like “butta”. Talk with the shop owner for a bit, they like to chat and negotiate. If you can speak Arabic or French it will be very helpful.
Sorry I don’t know much about the hotels, we always stay with Family. And I have never been to Chefchaouen, but it is on my list.
The next city on my list is Essaouira, it is approx 2.5 hours straight out from Marrakech to the coast - it looks like a beautiful city, is known for its fresh fish and looks like a great place for tourists.
All I can say is bring your appetite! All they want to do it feed you and talk to you, and the food is so good!!! Couscous and 7 vegetables, mint tea and cookies in the afternoon, the bread, the gravy, oh I’m getting hungry! Have a great time!
Thanks everyone, this is all super helpful!
I second Essouria - I traveled to Morocco last year and that city was a highlight. Really beautiful. Go for a horseback ride along the beach at sunset (yes soooo touristy but so gorgeous!)
