That moment when your "smart" plan to boost your hours this month by working the Labor Day weekend (thus turning down all the fun plans your friends made) becomes sitting on your hands & feeling dumb because all the partners are too busy to delegate anything. When your firm requires billable hours, how are they calculated? Actual vs realized (I.e. what you put on your billing sheet vs what is billed to the client). Does your firm differentiate? Which number do they go by? My mind is somehow not comprehending how some big law hours are under my small firm requirement?

Just cleared conflicts for a big law firm so I can officially leave my toxic mid-size insurance defense firm. I’m planning to give notice Friday, but should I get the start date first? The recruiter said they’d like me to start 11/15. And I seriously want to give notice soooooo bad. I’m so excited to leave that I literally cannot think straight 😂

I’m the only associate (mid-level) in a niche transactional group. My team is slammed. My paralegal is on leave. My partners keep delegating work to me but then I have no one to delegate anything to. Nearly everything for 2 big deals is on my list. I’m so stressed that I feel like I can’t breathe most days. I need help but there isn’t any available. I’m starting to feel like quitting is my only option. Any recommendations?

I have to fill out a background check form for a position and it asks if I've ever been discharged from a job. Does getting "the talk" --i.e. being told your future isn't at the firm as a senior associate--count as being discharged? Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Are there any firms out there that are open to attorneys retooling (switching from plaintiff to defense in the same practice area) for laterals? About to start my fourth year. Looking in the southeast region (AL, GA, TN). I do L&E but am willing to do other areas where I get caught up to speed on management-side L&E.

So stuck. What do I do? I joined this firm a year ago (4 yrs exp total) to grow/get more court/client exposure. Then 2 more-experienced associates were hired, pandemic, & all cases are divided between the other 2. I have no defined tasks except deficiency letters or the odd pro bono case. Boss claims it's mentoring. I still need to meet bill req.

Last wk Boss said I'll do more & my work was good, but today said I can't 2nd chair bc I don't have experience. I'm doing less now than my prior firm.
