Depends on practice and type of consulting, for those with specialized skills you will see more of a reverse pyramid org structure. I find in these kinds of practices the C suite you work with actually do value your input. But for those new grad scheme kinda practices I don’t think they respect you

….so like what area should I try and specialize in 😂😂 you guys are hilarious
What path did you take to get there?
I’ve done tech implementation, GTM, biz modeling, ops modeling, biz development, SC&O, finance. Each area has its pros and cons, you just have to figure out what pros interest you that covers its cons by asking those work in that field or those in the firm you want to work for and make the decision; everyone’s preference is different - there is no right or wrong answer. Start with thinking of what you’d like your career to become, what you want and don’t want.
“Most interesting” is so subjective. What’s most interesting to me may actually bore you to tears. I would suggest asking yourself these 4 questions:
What pays well? What do I enjoy? What am I good at? What is in demand?
You’ll want to pursue the role that best intersects with your answers to these questions. If you want to take it a step further, add a prioritization between these questions. For example, you may prioritize the most well paying role in your earlier years because demand will shift, interests will change, and skills can be developed over time.
It's growth strategy for startups. Feels like you are an entrepreneur. Very rare to get these engagements though.. they just don't have money for consultants. At least we don't get them often at my firm.
