Most of these recruiters don’t have a clue. Stop sending me BS job roles. You think I’m going to leave big 4 after 2 years of working my ass off to join some company as a staff accountant!? F off!

But but the growth potential!!

The fact that PwC 1 thinks that all you can have in two years is invoice and confirm experience just shows how little his teams trusted him when he was 2 years in. Pathetic to drag others down over your own insecurities

like

Lol maybe for you @pwc1 but I’ve done way more than that. Don’t tell me my value. Moving to a staff accountant role is a lateral move at best. Probably downgrade tbh.

like

Only 2 years into public... how could you think you’re qualified enough for anything else? Hate to break it to you but two years of vouching invoices and bank confirms hasn’t made you all that valuable quite yet. Do a year or two of senior and you’ll notice a change

likefunnyhelpful

It’s wall to wall garbage. Title isn’t as important as pay and the way your manager makes you feel about your efforts.

likefunny

Shocked to learn that PwC 1 has been mostly vouching invoices and sending out confirms in his/her first two years, especially with the gdm/rtm model that we have in place.

Recruiters send everyone BS job roles. Except for the really good ones, they don’t take the time to actually look at your qualifications and just blast out job descriptions- it’s quantity over quality. I’m in tax and if I had a nickel for every financial accounting job I’d been sent by a random recruiter...

helpful

I had a recruiter offer me an associate role the other day. I laughed for a solid minute before feeling offended. I have a feeling she won’t last long.

likefunny

Lots of these recruiters are as unprofessional as they can get. I had one offering me an accounting job because she believed that I am the perfect fit. I tried to explain to her, that my current role is about corporate finance, not accounting. Well, she was absolutely baffled and said “but you do work for Deloitte”. Jeez.

likefunny

@pwc2 and @pwc3 my thoughts exactly!

like

Eh... Be careful. Judging a job solely on a title is not the most accurate way of evaluating the role.

Like M2 said, look at everything. Recently offered tax manager at a public company running US provision but when I reviewed the job description it said I would be preparing WPs and the pay was what I’d expect a senior in industry to make - it was basically a senior position with a manager title

D1. Agreed! The unprofessionalism combined with a selfishness to just get someone placed makes me really dislike recruiters with a passion.

I did an internship with a boutique consulting firm that got extended for a full year while I was in school full time as well. On top of that I have 16 months of experience in my B4/T2 consulting firm, and I have a ton of other experience on top of that interning at banks and startups. TLDR; I have 3+ years of experience, 1 year at a small consulting shop and 1.5 years at B4 upon graduation. Is it true that none of this experience really counts?

I am looking for some advice or opinions to apply for consulting jobs right now. I currently work at a mid-sized/regional firm, but plan move to a different city later this year. I have ~4 yr xp working on system implementations, IT policies/controls, and BPO, but my undergrad GPA wasn't the best (I did become a CPA and CISA though). Should I try to apply to big 3/big 4? Stay mid-sized? Get an MBA or Masters? Move and pray? Thanks in advanced for any comments!

Current S1 here. Is it okay if my resume experience is just: B4 Internship > Associate > Senior? (All in the same firm/practice) Never done other internships. The only other thing I could include is a student assistant job I had in college. Not sure if that's even relevant. Guess just the progression at this 1 firm is enough? Just looks a bit incomplete on the resume.

Currently talking to recruiters for a new job and it is honestly such a turnoff when they talk too much about having a strong company culture and/or talking about making sure I'm a good fit culturally. For me that borders on culty and is a red flag. I would much rather hear from a recruiter that a workplace's "culture" is that they are accepting of all cultures, diversity, and personality types.
