The "racism" white people typically feel is actually just discomfort at the leveling or at the exposure of a very uneven playing field. Oppression of POC is the founding pillar of this nation's economy, the process of empowering POC after 200+ years of slavery, culture washing, decades of segregation, decades of persecution at the hands of hate groups, and the continued persecution at the hands of the justice and educational system has been, and continues to be, hard and paved with resistance. To think that the system is completely fixed and doesn't discriminate is a stupid statement in light of a storm of facts that show POC is incarcerated and not given equal access to education at disproportionate rates. Any 'racism' and 'injustice' that the broader white community feels - a community where 54% of their members believes that today whites are more discriminated against than POC - is an often unconscious resistance to an evening playing field. You are not systematically discriminated against, you're reacting to the fact that a people you subconsciously believe to be dangerous and opposed to you is increasingly fighting to get access to equal rights.

I'm not saying white men and women don't have personal problems, I'm just asking for these to be framed in the appropriate light and perspective. Is your blonde hair a signal that you come from generations of slaves and disenfranchised peoples? No, for the majority of this nation's history a very big, all-engulfing white media machine has been propping up blonde hair as the beauty standard - a desirable trait, natural black people hair as messy and unclean, and latino hair as oily and unclean. Be conscious of how your ideas of beauty and a lot of culturally desirable things are a well-marketed mirage covering "white superiority" standards

A4 this is either the greatest troll on earth or just awesome. Not only have you conflated your eating choice with racism but this is also the "worst" experience you have had in your career. Congrats.

I've noticed in my last four years that people assume I'm incompetent because I have an accent, am brown, and look scrawny. I have to kill myself to gain their trust in every situation, and it's exhausting, especially when managers and senior managers are mediocre and lackluster

1) Client had to redo my name plate 3 times because they used the picture of the wrong Asian the first 2 times. 2) After being here for 16 months, client still refers to me by the name of another Asian in weekly meeting minutes. 3) Microwave at the client site has an "oriental" button.

While at a boutique we had a small insane client. We had an Asian woman on the team and the client kept making dominatrix jokes towards her... she was a seasoned hand from the auto industry and wanted us to ignore it, after two days we didn't come back for a third. Told leadership to fire this guy as a client and they actually did.

I've noticed that my opinions are constantly second-guessed or not trusted until backed up a white colleague (I'm a black woman) even if he or she is less experienced. Then there are also the weird comments regarding my appearance including "such an interesting hybrid," "you don't look black" and the ever-popular "what are you?"

Are you really Indian? But your English is so good. Are your sure you didn't study in England or Australia? (I'm pretty sure I didn't study in England or Australia unless I had an accident and forgot that part of my life)

I didn't believe in racism in undergrad, I naively believed the world was a meritocracy, but after four years in this industry I definitely see it. This whole job has been a somewhat/moderately racist experience

Being a black woman, there are too many moments to name .. The worst part is people don't think they're being racist and when you say something about it, you're being sensitive... 😒

Hey ladies ! Questions: I am currently on maternity leave and accepted an offer elsewhere that I need to end my leave early and go to the new place. My company does not have any policy stating that I need to pay back the additional money the company provided during my maternity leave. But I check out the federal law saying that they have the right to do so. Not sure how other companies handle this situation. Please share some experiences!!

Any creatives have any tips for making it to Creative Director level? I know I'm talented and I work hard. I've been an ACD for four years (and was an Art Director for 6). I've seen men with similar experience surpass me in title. I know that the industry doesn't exactly work in my favor and I'm willing to go above and beyond to make this happen... Any thoughts on where to begin?
