Mother has a decent nest egg ($3M) and lives in an extremely LCOL area. Currently manages money through RBC, however the fees are a gross operating expense of 0.36%. What do you all recommend? I’m not savvy enough to manage it myself however I know that fees can stack up and kill returns. Would appreciate any insight/advice/snark.

This is active management for 0.36%? Tbh that’s pretty good. If neither her nor you are able to manage it yourself you could probably keep it there

like

Ya this is fine

0.36% for active management is very reasonable. There are plenty of index and mutual funds 1% or higher

like

No problem at all. Best of luck.

What SA1 said. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Why not just throw it all in an index fund?

Retirement is 2-5 years away so there’s some level of bond allocation etc that needs to be accounted for. Honestly have never really looked into properly allocations/funds etc.

That’s dirt cheap. That’s a lot of money to be messing with if she needs it right around the corner.

Wife is a financial advisor and <$5M she charges .75-1%.

Ladies who also abide by the “expecting better” philosophy that a glass of wine every once in a while is totally fine during pregnancy… I am going to a work women’s happy hour tomorrow. Just started investments a month ago, majority in VOO. Have some funds (<5K) in few ETFs where I noticed (last night) the expense ratio is .40, .50, .20, .10 vs compared to VOO’s .03. Thoughts on selling those with higher expense ratio now? ( don’t have a lot of profit or loss at this point as it’s been just a month).

Do you think it’s better to go to immediately go a firm that’s beyond your skillset or work your way up to that firm? For example, going to a T2 firm as an experienced hire having never done consulting without or starting at a smaller consulting firm and then going to T2/MBB?
