I’m getting my mom all birds (she’s looking for a comfortable walking shoe) and I’m making her favorite, seafood paella, for lunch

I ordered from Goldbelly — they ship famous foods from restaurants around the county (think deep dish or hotdogs from Chicago, cheesesteaks from philly, bagels from NYC, etc.) I shipped my mom a Junior’s cheesecake since she grew up in NY and lives in Florida. Since we all have to eat at home and can’t travel these days, I figured a fav comfort food from her hometown would be an extra thoughtful treat.

Well there’s this current commercial for an anti-aging skin cream to get rid of bags under your eyes that says it’s a great Mother’s Day gift!!

Give it to your wife too. She'll love it!

To all of those who were laid off (including me), take the silver linings. You will no longer work almost as hard as IB while getting paid 1/3 as much. Hate to get religious here, but when God shuts a door, he opens a window. Take this opportunity to try something you’re actually interested in. It’s a long life, one job does not make or break! I for one am feeling better by the hour. Why work for a firm that doesn’t care about you or your time? Fresh start, new day. Let’s roll baby.

My best friend threw me a surprise (zoom) baby shower...she put SO much time & effort into coordinating everyone, making it special, coming up with games (and giving out prizes out of her own pocket). I want to send her something as a thanks, but not sure what. Any ideas? Obviously nothing like salon/spa/restaurant gift card due to COVID, which would have been what I’d give her in normal times.

I’ve been struggling on whether or not I should talk to my boss about one of my assignments. I am an entry level HR analyst with one year of professional experience and she has tasked me with leading a strategic agency-wide project. This entails procuring a consultant, directing work of our senior analysts, leading a cross functional team to implement the project, point person, managing project timeline and deliverables, updating our policies and procedures to integrate the project, etc. To me, this is senior level work and should be done by the more senior analysts who have experience in this area. I understand it can be a great learning opportunity but feeling nervous. Thoughts?

Fish fam could use some help. Have been extremely demotivated lately and slipped a bit on deadlines the past 2 weeks. Nothing actually missed, just not as responsive/quick on the turnaround as usual or needed reminders for status updates on items. Manager set up time for a chat tomorrow, pretty sure it’s to address these “performance issues”. What’s the best way to respond in a credible way beyond “sorry, will pick it up”. If pushed for a reason, what do I say beyond “exhausted and disengaged”?
