The insurance side of things doesn't improve the situation either! America's handling on the health field is mostly about the money, and it's infuriating with how privatized everything is.
We don't like it much either, believe me. I think a lot more Americans are behind universal healthcare than most in other countries would imagine. And those that aren't just aren't well-educated enough to understand what it means.
It depends on your insurance coverage. Mine is awesome - all I end up paying is $15 for a copay and pretty much everything else is covered. Sorry you've had such a bad experience so far.
