Moving from Accenture to Oliver Wyman for a Digital Strategy Consultant role, is it a good move? I'm currently L9 at Accenture Interactive in London.

Yes it’s a good move, it’s nice here! :-) what do you want to know specifically?

Ok sounds like I’m not the only one who does not know what L9 is -6y helps, thanks! there is added complexity given that our digital practice is growing incredibly fast, and has a huge variety of roles. Generally, we are getting better (read that as ‘have also struggled at times’) at integrating senior hires, esp. during Covid. The more tech heavy areas of the practice are generally better at this. At the same time, the shape and career pathways of the digital practice are also developing rapidly, giving it (vs Accenture, but this is hearsay) a more startup-like culture - with both pros (lots of room to shape things, create a path that works for you, self development) and cons (can feel unorganized - plus we do have a corporate holding making some matters more complex as well)

Be aware they’ll normally bump you down a level, and tell a story about how you can quickly progress to get back to level. Which is true and possible, but it’s more common that our EHs take that hit (I did) and then it does take some time to settle in and learn the “ow way” and you’re always a little worse off than your peers who joined the firm as new grad. So you need to have a long term view, but as Ow1 says it is a genuinely nice atmosphere to be in so I hope you join but with eyes open.

Went from Acn to OW (not digital though). A few thoughts for you to consider... Pros: -Pay is higher at OW (those Acn bonuses were peanuts compared to OW’s) -Better name brand and generally more interesting work -Overall I’d say people are more driven and intellectual at OW -perks in genera are much better -exit ops are significantly better -meritocracy - if you’re performing, you don’t need to wait 2 years like at ACN to get promo’ed Con: -WLB is legit a major concern. I was pulling 50 hours at ACN, 70-80 at OW. In really rough weeks, I’ve pulled up to 100 hours. I don’t think this is the case in digital but it’s something to keep in mind. Overall I’d say that’s the trade off you need to make. Think through what you’re looking for in your current life stage. Feel free to DM me if you have questions!

My hours are much better than what you describe, so I guess there is a range, prob geo dependent

Till EM level, yes. After that it could be longer, it really depends on how much you’re able to prove yourself as ready for the next level.

Thanks so much guys, it's incredible to have these insights - helps me make a more informed choice. In terms of the progression, is it generally 2 years per level before your expected to push to the next one?

Also considering an offer at OW in HLS (U.S. based). Can anyone speak to WLB and pipeline for HLS?

For those who interview what do y’all look for in your interviewees? I feel like when I ever interview for a technical role they’re looking for skills and experience first. But when I interview for a S&O/ functional role they’re looking for more fit, personality, and culture? Though i’m just at the SC level I’m probably wrong.
