I live in Los Feliz from Chicago :)
The best deep dish in LA is a small place called Dough Box. Thank me later.
Moved here from Chicago 5 years ago - things I miss most are:
- seasons (basically fall)
- rooftop bars
- american new dining scene
- being a 2-3 hour flight from almost anywhere
- deep dish pizza and portillos
- and proximity to friends in city.
- If you like watching sports a lot (I do not), be aware there’s not a sport bar culture here at all.
- Also, if you move to a apt building, Chicago building amenities are much bougier.
That said, there are far more things I love about LA:
- ocean/hiking/mountains all available in one day
- proximity to weekend trips (Palm Springs, Vegas, Santa Barbara, Paso Robles, San Diego, etc.)
- timing of work day start and work culture
- access to amazing Asian and Hispanic food
- less crowded (people/building wise)
- cheaper parking
- more things to do than just drink with friends
- access to entertainment (comedy clubs, shows)
- ease of working with east coast and central clients - (hello 5am and 6am calls here)
- outdoor music scene (Hollywood bowl, Greek theatre, rose bowl)
- and all of this is all year round...not just summer.
Note: IMO traffic is not as bad here generally
Three more adds 😆
For Chicago
- the greenery I missed moving to LA. LA is much more brown
For LA
- the diversity of people here especially in white collar jobs compared to Chicago
- don’t wake up to 30 shootings on the news. I didn’t realize how abnormal that was until I left Chicago
The 4 seasons. Midwest culture. Museums. Public transport. Portillos.

Not Chicago, but I moved here from Northern VA.
While NoVa winters pale in comparison to those of Chicago, you couldn’t pay me enough to move back and deal with the freezing cold, snow and wind chill ever again.
Take that FWIW. Inspite of its flaws and downsides, Los Angeles is pretty amazing.
