New York. Itâs better than Chicago in literally every respect other than cost of living and beauty of summers.
Having lived in both cities, I can see where SM1 is coming from. To simplify: there is a long list of little things that NYC has an advantage in, Chicago's cost advantage is one huge thing. It comes down to values. I care more about saving 67% on rent/mortgage than having sushi at 4am instead of 2am or flying DL instead of UA/AA/WN or having the 1st best vs 2nd best train system.
If I had unlimited funds, I might pick NYC, but beyond that, I'd pick Chicago.
If you want diversity Denver is not the place you want to move to
Itâs the perfect place for people who say they want diversity but donât actually want diversity

Chattanooga, TN is always a dark horse đ´ in these conversations. Hella good DINK living to be had there.
Seattle! No income tax and beautiful nature
usually offset by higher sales/property taxes. or in florida's case, an absurd amount of tolls. could have sworn i spent like 20 bucks in tolls driving into orlando...

Houston - no income tax, and beautiful people, and great food scene.
Lived in H before Chicago. Itâs not unique in any way and too spread out. Not to mention the humidity. You end up hating the summer!!!
I spent time in Austin, if you love Chicago you may feel a little constricted in Austin

Iâm on the same boat OP. We value most of the things youâve highlighted already with an emphasis on diversity. LA is high on the list. Anyone make a similar move recently? Thoughts?
I live in Raleigh and LOVE it. Youâll not have to worry about lake effect snow and COL is low.
Other pieces we love: great food, outdoors activities, highly educated area, close to beaches and mountains.
