Moving on from Hotels (Hospitality)?

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now, but it is very to commit to actually accept a new job offer since I really do love my job. My only complaint is, the pay vs workload is very small. I’m a manager now and my property offered me a director position… but the salary is still low! To make six figures, it’ll take another 5-6 years to grind it out.

Should I move on and go to a different industry? Opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance.

Did you try to negotiate a higher salary at all? Also, I'm wondering if other properties would pay a bit more. It definitely sounds like you have the experience to try applying to some other properties!

Hi! They actually offered $10k more than what they normally offer… but still that’s too low for the job. I actually declined job offers at other companies that offered me more.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't personally know anyone making six figures who doesn't absolutely hate the way their job controls everything in their life. So money is definitely not the only thing you should be considering. I've found that having predictable hours is very important to me so even though I would make more money by switching to another place I interviewed with, I don't think I'm going to accept their offer because the schedule would be far less predictable and my family would have to adjust a lot.

I was in your position once and after 3 times unsuccessfully asking for a raise, I updated my LinkedIn and Glassdoor profile and started applying for better offers. I'm now working as a manager and I got better working conditions. My previous boss agreed to raise my salary once she knew I was quitting- very convenient.

I just researched median salaries glass door and used that to negotiate. Once they realized I was looking elsewhere they didn’t even try to counter my offer. It’s an employees market right now, get as many coins as you can!

Remember different management companies and markets will pay differently. You could stay with hotels, but change management companies; however since you already stated you turned down other offers, maybe there is another role you can consider.
As a Manager myself, I agree it can be very thankless.

In the past 6 years, I was promoted twice, from P3 to P4, then a few years later, from P4 to P5. However, I found out that my salary is still within the P3 band (actually 10k below max P3 range). I have two job offers, 1.) Low to Mid size healthcare firm, privately held, Senior Financial Analyst role working on physician compensation, $90k base, no bonus, or 2.) Temp to hire postion with McKesson, 3 to 6 month contract, high probability of leading to a full-time role as a Financial Analyst, $41 an hour, high probability of earning a senior role within a year. Base range for a full-time offer should range between 90-100k, but definitely taking a risk.

Any thoughts?

Sales assistant at a drug/grocery store. The manager thinks my coworker does great work but I've seen her putting out new products without rotating stock (so the oldest food will be sold first) and we are always supposed to check the dates when shelving new things. The problem is, I don't really get along with this coworker and I think it's noticeable to management. If I bring this up with our supervisor, are people going to think that I'm just trying to sabotage my coworker so that I will look better than her?
