In Charlotte and love it. Been here about 3 years and have been the most amazing quality of life I’ve ever had. Beautiful homes that are affordable, and if you rent it’s much better suited cost wise, the city is booming, tons of great new restaurants and companies coming here, traffic really isn’t that bad (compared to what I was used to), and the weather is awesome. Summer can get pretty warm, but the winters are mild and so comfortable. A few hours to the beach, couple hours to the mountains. Big airport that makes travel easier. Cant say enough good things about it. Flaws: it’s hot af in July/aug. Unlike most other developed cities, there isn’t much when you drive like 45 min out of the city. State run liquor stores are bogus.

Live in Charlotte, formerly lived in Savannah. Charlotte has great restaurants, beautiful neighborhoods (home prices are skyrocketing though), a large airport with flights everywhere, great walkability depending on the area, affordable drinks and rent prices. It's progressive and has mostly mild weather aside from the heat in July/Aug. Great prospects in the job market with the banks, microsoft, and other large companies with a good presence. Savannah is much smaller city, almost a town, with a much more striking divide between the haves and have-nots. Much less to do but there are some great restaurants and local spots and you have Tybee Island nearby for your beach fix. Very little in terms of economic activity outside of the port and tourism. The people are all nice but the neighborhoods downtown can be limited in terms of local feel due to all of the airbnb's. You will have to connect for most flights out of the airport. Dirt cheap cost of living.

Also take Columbia off the list. Not worth it.

I live in Chicago now and have lived in Dallas. Definitely consider Dallas if it's not on your list. Reasonable amount of things to do, fairly walkable if you're in the downtown-ish area. Lower cost of living (the locals will tell you otherwise, but it's still 20-35% cheaper than Chi depending on your lifestyle), no state income taxes, pretty good quality of life, moderate climate, two great airports with access to many international destinations, very friendly people, barely any rush hour traffic compared to Chicago if you drive. Negative: the nature part sucks like Chicago

@D1-Every bit as Chicago-maybe more. Black mayors in both. North-South divide in both, but Dallas proper feels a lot less segregated than Chicago proper

Nashville is great. We have lots of people moving here from California, Illinois, and New York. There are several in town areas that are more walkable and lots of places for your pet.

How bad are flights in Asheville? I really like the area, but no idea what’d be like to live there.

Charleston is a fun place to live but you might struggle with availability of direct flights. It is a pretty small airport. Charlotte seems to hit everything on your list and has a very capable airport.

Definitely take Columbia off your list lol. I’m here now but moving back to nyc in a few months. There’s one street with decent bars/restaurants and few breweries. But seems like for what you want, Columbia really isn’t it. There’s nothing to do-you’ll be so bored

I’ve lived in Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Atlanta. Depends what you’re looking for. Chattanooga is pretty progressive for being a “small” city in Tennessee. Great outdoors activities. Cheap living, slower paced. Lots to do relative to its size. Growing a lot Atlanta has way more to do, you can fly direct to most anywhere. Cost a little more but you get all the big city stuff (also get big city crime and traffic). And cost is not that much more than Chatt. Went to school in Knoxville so to me I just see it as a college town. But I did have a blast in college so that might not be a bad thing Feel free to DM if you want to know more or have questions

I'm moving to Raleigh soon and came from Chicago. From what I can tell, cost of living is ridiculously cheaper than Chicago. It also gives us a few more options of weekend adventures because both the beach and mountains are driving distance away. I'm looking forward to visiting Ashville on weekends or taking a beach trip to relax.

Triangle area (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) over Charlotte. Either of those over anywhere else in the southeast, but CLT leaves you hub captive for American.

Charlotte

Avoid columbia! A friend from the area recently told me it's on the decline

5.5 months pregnant. I’ve been having some insanely vivid dreams about breastfeeding my future baby. Weird

Well I'm a first time mom and feel home bound running the baby cycles. My baby is not a good sleeper so I feel like I am on 24/7. When he is a asleep in doing the usual bottles, dinner etc. I feel like I need more confidence to get myself and baby out of the house with everything in tow but I suppose walking through malls could help. Houston heat doesn't make it ideal to walk around outside during the day. I also do the night cycles solo so I'm pretty much too exhausted to do anything but want to get more scheduled about it so I can plan on an hour here and there when my husband gets home.

Looking for advice/validation. Currently have about 10 credit cards (yes really!) About half are airline cards that I signed up for for the miles, quicker boarding, and free bags- but they carry a $100 annual fee. Other half are random no-fee cards (BoA, Amazon chase, capital one venture, west elm). My thought is to cancel the ones w an annual fee (just bought a house so no immediate need for higher credit limit). Does this make sense?
