Moving to Chicago for a June-through-August internship. What’s the best thing I could do for 3 months of furnished living that doesn’t involve crazy prices or shacking up with strangers?

Most agencies aren't asking ppl to come back until fall. Wtf agency is asking ppl to be there in person ?

like

Same question.

like

It’s chicago homie. Compared to nyc and la it’s almost free. Grab a studio or shack up with other interns and have the time of your life. Ps, what agency is having interns in the office?

like

Yeah I wanna know the answer to that last question too.

like

Sublet. Your cheaper option is going to involve strangers, though. Embrace it. I lived with Craigslist roommates a decade ago that I’m still friends with.

like

This is probably obvious, but you should absolutely check out Airbnb. Prices are still very low. Last time I had an extended stay in Chicago, I stayed at an Airbnb in Lincoln park that was a two br for like 50 a day.

like

Look for sublets near colleges. Loyola rents out rooms in their dorm by water tower for summer interns. If you don’t mind a twin XL it’s one of the nicer places I’ve lived in Chicago (had a sick view of hancock building/lake mich and central AC), and definitely the best location.

like

You could do [furnished] corporate housing [Presidential Towers is the cheapest but dated, Parc Huron, plenty others] but honestly for 3 months it’s be cheaper to get a studio on a short term lease or sublet with an air mattress. you won’t be there much

Airbnb will always have options. Or try Sonder although it might cost a bit more.

Check your college alumni network. May still be strangers, but at least there will be threads of connection.

Did anyone do an internship or a part-time job between completing their MBA and starting as a consultant? I graduate early June and start mid-September, so plenty of time. Ideally people have experience with something 10-20 hours a week and remote (that way I can travel, otherwise would just start my job earlier!). I am mostly interested in trying out something in finance, PE, venture, or social impact, but interested to hear about how anyone sourced roles with similar timelines. Thanks!

I don’t know whether I want to pursue Auditing or Tax. I’ve done 3 summer internships with Deloitte and am currently in a tax internship with a local boutique firm. I realized I hate doing individual returns and much rather work with financial statements. I’m not sure if this means Auditing would be a better fit for me because I enjoy analyzing and working within financials. I would honestly just pick the more financially rewarding career with better post-big 4 options. Any thoughts?

Advice for a college senior? My sister has a 3.99 and extracurricular involvement at UMD, but her junior internship plans were derailed due to the pandemic. She’s been applying to entry level programs or roles in marketing and editorial, but a lot of them require prior internship experience in the space, which she wasn’t able to get. What would you do - keep trying, postpone graduation, or anything else?

I received art director intern offer two weeks ago from a NYC shop named”Web...”.On the last phone call the recruiter asked me about my visa status. And then they emailed me back a week later said they decided to put the position on hold because of business shifts. I hold a stem opt visa, and it’s valid until 2024 June. So I don’t need any sponsorship atm.
