My partner and I currently live in Davidson NC, a college town that is 30 minutes north of Charlotte, and an hour south of Winston-Salem. It's a great town, with some nice restaurants and an active consulting community, but potentially a long drive for your partner. There aren't a lot of great towns between Winston Salem and the northern suburbs of Charlotte (like Davidson or Mooresville). Winston Salem has a good vibe (home of Wake Forest University) and really affordable housing compared to the Charlotte metro area, so maybe it's worth considering. There's also a killer bakery called Bobby Boy Bakeshop if you do end up in the Winston-Salem.
Salisbury, NC. It’s a 40 minute drive from Winston-Salem. There’s a gorgeous Amtrak station that provides service 3x day service to Charlotte or drive 50 minutes. It has its own orchestra, paid for by the most millionaires per capita back in the 80’s.
Why not just live in Winston? For the longest time the only Ferrari dealership in the state was in Winston bc it was wiser to be equidistant to the customer bases of Charlotte or Raleigh than ignore one at the risk alienating the other.
Winston is a cool area and pretty safe! I would also recommend areas in Charlotte / North Charlotte like mooresville or concord. But since you want to be closer to Winston I would reccomend Winston vs any of the cities that are in the middle of CLT and Winston. Feel free to DM and I’m happy to help further
I live in CLT. Winston is a cool little city. Definitely a good college town vibe. Are you working out of CLT or remotely?
Remotely - wife will be in Winston for work daily. So closer to Winston would be better.
Davidson is an amazing area. Highly respected schools, amazing community, and cool downtown area. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.
Mooresville is great
