Moving to the city for the first time - single / early 30s F. UES seems to be reasonably priced for the space, is this a good place to live ?

I’m 28F and love living in the UES! It quickly became one of my favorite neighborhoods

Single early 30s M here and I’m going for midtown East

UES has decent deals right now bc nobody wants to live there. Compared to pretty much any other neighborhood in Manhattan it’s highly lacking in good restaurants/bars etc. but rent is pretty good.

I’m 28F and I love it up here! I’ve lived here for almost 3 years now.

Yes UES is good if you want peace and quiet. It is a bit stuffy and mostly elderly people and families there though. You might like the UWS more but it is more expensive too.

Also definitely depends on avenues on each side. On UWS, for example, west end is nice and quiet but Broadway is less so

You should consider UWS! It has a little more going on than UES, better transit and riverside park/the greenway are amazing. Might be a little pricier though. Happy to answer questions about it

Love the UES! Close to great restaurants, museums, parks, airports.

Same demographic. UES is nice but I picked Hell’s Kitchen. Similar priced rents, but better subway access for getting downtown.

Come to BK!

I’d recommend UWS over UES. Most 30-something-singles live in west side neighborhoods - i.e. Chelsea, WV, Tribeca. It’s very hard to get to the UES from these neighborhoods and harder to meet up with people. Don’t do Midtown East or Kips Bay - super young crowd and the neighborhoods lack character that so many other areas offer.

Help - If I get my H1 visa stamping (new) in India this Dec, can I go back in February 2018 or are there any conditions as per which I have to stay in the US for a certain period of time?

Currently talking to recruiters for a new job and it is honestly such a turnoff when they talk too much about having a strong company culture and/or talking about making sure I'm a good fit culturally. For me that borders on culty and is a red flag. I would much rather hear from a recruiter that a workplace's "culture" is that they are accepting of all cultures, diversity, and personality types.

Got verbal offer, want to educate myself on LTIs specifically restricted stock units. What's your organization's stance on surveys? I've been in the HR department of my organization for a year and a half, we've never sent any type of engagement, satisfaction, NPS, etc. survey to employees. I've just been made aware that our Executive team and our CEO are not a fan of employee surveys so that's why we don't do them. Is this...normal? Or is it dysfunctional as an HR department to not be doing surveys?
