I think downtown Bethesda would be convenient and a nice walkable place to live with an easy drive to Chevy chase. Alternatively, if you want NW DC, the red line corridor between Van Ness-Cleveland Park-Woodley Park (and even down to Dupont) would be nice.
Woodley/Cleveland Park, Kalorama, West End, Georgetown
Personally, I wouldn’t be keen to drive from Georgetown or West End up to Maryland for a commute. There are buses, but isolated in terms of metro access. I would opt off a Red Line or in Maryland for driving.
Depends on what you’re looking for (space, schools vs social, dense). Prob downtown Bethesda or Friendship Heights if you want proximity. For DC proper, anything down the red line down to dupont in NW should do you fine and be under 25 min commute.
There really isn’t an area to avoid that is within 20 min of chevy chase.
Friendship Heights
Potomac. I hear that area is relatively affordable...
You can also do anywhere on the L2. That includes Adams Morgan down to Farragut North.
