Not sure on your budget, but Long Island City (Queens) is great for commuting to midtown and there are often parking garages in apartment buildings, with a few paid monthly lots as well or you can do street parking. I’m by the court square stop and did street parking for about half a year before a spot opened up in my building and it was fairly easy to find spots on the street. Also I’m sure further in Queens would be cheaper, possibly more street parking if you get to the more residential-y spots. Would suggest sticking close to 7 line to keep commute time down.
Why not Weehawken? Commute to midtown is much closer than Queens… it’s a pretty well off and clean commuter town. Parking is less than $300 a month at many buildings. Hoboken is also an option
North Williamsburg Waterfront or Dumbo beat almost anything in Manhattan (much prettier, and food scene is as good if not better). But just as expensive as nice neighborhoods in Manhattan, albeit with somewhat more space.
Thanks, that is very helpful.
Lived in Hoboken long time ago. Would suggest looking at that. Great town. You can find places with parking.

I love LIC but Jersey may be cheaper
It all depends on where (specifically) you’re working. LIC is truly great, but it’s so much better if you’re off the 7.
Brooklyn (everywhere in Brooklyn) is farther than Im willing to travel to get anywhere in midtown.
I lived in Jersey City when I first moved up here from Texas. Moved to Manhattan within a year and like it much more than I did Jersey City. Commute is obviously quicker and easier, restaurants and bars are much better, and overall experience I have found to just be better. Note - I did give up my car (you don’t need one in Manhattan). I now live in the Upper West Side which is quite a bit cheaper than the southern parts of the island (like West Village or Tribeca).
Since we have a toddler we’ve written off most of Manhattan - would rather trade the nightlife options for more space! Mostly focusing on sticking to safe areas and getting the most bang for our buck. Any areas in Jersey City you’d recommend/avoid?
