Salaries between UK and US are night and day, I would heavily research what your band gets for your company in NYC and use that. What company, what level?
Started just over 3 years ago on £51k OTE - have since made 6 promos at £5-10k salary increments each time
As others have said, UK salaries are lot lower than US ones, beyond the cost of living difference. I think a base salary of $180-185k is about right. Note that MBB and Tier 2 pay the same anywhere in the US
Thanks very much for all the replies on this - very helpful and food for thought! Sounds like I’m moving from already quite a good starting point and something like 180-200 USD OTE is probably fair enough - then just have to swallow the fact rent is going to be disproportionately higher

Almost like double honestly. Depending on level I suppose
Furnished apartments are essentially corporate apartment rates; it’s not the norm. Assuming you’re planning to stay, best to rent unfurnished from the get go.
You should get around $185k base, $230k total comp for a Tier 2 M1 engagement manager. You can easily afford a nice 1 bedroom for around $3500 in almost any neighborhood in Manhattan on that salary.
I moved from London to NY a decade ago on the same salary (factoring in exchange rate) + a relo bonus of $20K or something, and did not experience any cost of living issues. While my apartment cost more, my taxes were less, food was cheaper and cabs were cheaper - it all just netted out.
Very fair; for one thing GBP is a lot stronger against the dollar today than when I moved. Then it was about 1.65 whereas today probably 1.35, so straight the conversion leaves you lighter.
Fair point.

I think US salaries are at least 50 percent higher vs UK for consulting. It could be higher.
