Franklin's Ice Cream! Shop looks like in the 50s. Plus, the ice cream is amazing. Easiest is you just go down market street. You will see all the good things: Liberty Bell, hall of independence....

For a little off the beaten path (aka center city) check out east passyunk Ave in south philly. Lots of great restaurants that are pretty much all BYOB.

Dizengoff - same owner as Zahav, same amazing hummus. The Dandelion - British style pub and restaurant from Stephen Starr. Honeygrow - quick stir fry or salad lunch takeout. Tria (any mission). Smokin' Betty- get the Betty Burger (also good for brunch). Zavino - pizza, charcuterie, good drinks. SuGa- new, but return of one of Philly's most respected chefs of last twenty years. Serpico. Marrakech - good Moroccan food, cheap, seven courses, belly dancers. ...lived here for over a decade and staffed locally. You're arriving at the perfect time of year, Philly is a fantastic food and bar town.
Don't go to Monk's - their beer is not the best on the east coast nor are their mussels tasty
Also for sightseeing eastern state penitentiary is pretty cool

*"any location" for Tria reference. Also adding Tampopo on 21st - this is IMO the best Korean/Japanese takeout bowls and bento boxes in the city. Get the bibimbop or spicy beef/chicken/squid with white rice and broccoli.
