You can try negotiating with your landlord. It never hurts to ask. But my guess would be that since they have you locked into the contract and you don’t have much leverage, they’re just going to tell you to go kick rocks. Sorry!
The only way out is : 1. Sublet your apartment to someone at the current rent 2. Rent a different apartment that you feel is at a fair price
Chalk it up to a life lesson and find a cheaper place next September? But also, don't beat yourself up -- this is NYC, we're all overpaying and sometimes it may be worth it to snag that place you're happy with.
Also, request your DHCR rent history -- you may be rent stabilized + being illegally overcharged. More common than you would think.

@OP: well, you said you’re overpaying. On what basis do you think you’re overpaying? Hence why I asked where you’re living and what amenities are part of your rent.
Similar to what others suggested, you can try having a conversation with your landlord on the rent and what you deem is more appropriate. It’s also help to know what you’re paying.
