My 2020 goal is to either obtain my AAMS or CRPC designation. Which one holds more industry strength? My end goal is to get my CFP. Thoughts?

I believe the cfp or cfa holds more weight in the finance industry. If you are thinking about private wealth management, trust divisions or management position they usually ask for a cfp or cfa.

Nice! Congrats. I’d go straight for the CFP but you know Jones and them wanting us to have a certain production requirement for the reimbursement. I am leaning towards the AAMS then doing CFP when I’m able too.

like

Thanks. I can’t speak for the CRPC. Learned a lot with AAMS.

Not too sure on AAMS but CRPC provides pretty broad yet deep retirement training, not just assets. In addition you can opt out of I believe 2 parts of the CFP if you pass test at the end. If CFP is your goal you will already be on your way without wasting time or money.

CFP, CPA,CFA Are the only designations that carry weight and matter. I personally would struggle at Edward Jones while holding the CFP seeing as how the sales oriented culture is kind a counter to the fiduciary standards that to CFP board preaches. Also, Edward Jones does not offer financial planning in a holistic approach in nor are the reps trained to do so. I would encourage you to go independent after you earn your CFP.

I agree, wholeheartedly. I earned my CFP while at Jones, but couldn’t really use it until I went independent.

If you plan on getting the CFP I would get the CRPC and skip the AAMS. I have all 3. The CRPC and AAMS are both covered in the CFP so you could just start on that also. But if you want letters quicker get the CRPC then start on the CFP The AAMS is like a baby CFP in that it covers a broad base of planning knowledge but the test isn’t as hard. So if you didn’t want the CFP I would do that but if you do then I would skip it.

CFP. Let's ask valuable questions. Google the industry questions.

My progression was AAMS then CFP which i passed last year! It worked well for me. Celebrated my 4 year can serve anniversary yesterday. Currently level 7 production.

Financial Advisor 1.... clearly you aren't around a major metropolitan area that has little to no assets to share.

like

What current level are you?

2 with production level 3.

Been in the business for two years and AAMS was a little more tough than the Series 7, but i did learn a lot. It looks good being younger having some letters next to my name. I went back and fourth on AAMS vs CRPC and decided AAMS. Can’t really go wrong with either.
