One issue could be that you don't know what you invested it in.

Move. It. To. A. S&P500. Index. Fund.

If you don't know what you are doing then go the easy route with the "target retire XXXX" funds. Low fees and you don't need to keep jiggering with the mix.

like

Second to the sp500 fund. Possibly also a larger index fund too, maybe something based on Russell 2000 or a 'total market'

You will have low and negative returns some years. It works out over the long term if you are diversified and taking on the appropriate level of risk.

like

What did you invest it in?

Don't recall off top of my head. I think it was heavy on index funds, then the remaining was split across real estate and emerging markets.

But I don't really know what I'm doing here

What returns are typical for you and those you know? And what do you invest in to achieve those returns?

You're investing in the wrong things, I guess!

What PwC1 said.

What ACN1 said

Also that way if the markets turn it's not "your" fault

This prompted me to check mine. -.03% in 2016. Helpppp

13% thru September. Mostly in mid cap index fund.

We are in the process of consolidating accounts for a new client and moving them over to Charles Schwab where we custody - all straight forward stuff. The client has an old 401k from a previous employer and filled out the paperwork with that 401k to roll it to Schwab. So about $470k hit her Schwab account last week. And then exactly 7 days later, another $460k hits again. Both from the 401k custodian. But her account was only $470k. I think they messed up royally. Now what???

New/pivoting into HR! 👋 Currently working as a TA Coord with a little entry level work in HR Ops prior to this. Is there a SHRM link, reliable test, or method of shadowing the various parts of HR that will provide a sample of the work, thinking, and day to day experience of each group? I didn’t go to school for HR and therefore haven’t had the opportunity to sample HR Ops. vs. TA vs. Comp vs. Benefits vs. Payroll, etc. I know work experience is the best barometer, but what can supplement this?
