Do you think he is struggling with the content? Or is it more of a behavioral thing? I feel like that age it is often more behavioral than anything, which, as a science teacher, is harder to manage. Try to really communicate with the teacher and do more positive reinforcement based on his daily work. It could be things as simple as choosing dinner, 5 extra minutes of tv before bed, choosing his own snacks for lunch, etc.
My son's the same with writing and I'm an English teacher. He wants to just say his answers and be done with it...argh.
If you find the solution, let us all know. Being a teacher's kid is hard. My son was great at school until 8th grade. I think he realized he was close to having me as a teacher. He started trying to be extra "cool," which included doing any dare no matter the consequences and not worrying about the quality of his work-when he even bothered to hand it in.
I teach middle school and I have a middle schooler at home. It could just be he doesn’t jive with that particular teacher. That’s the thing about secondary… there are more personalities , guidelines, and preferences to deal with than there was in elementary. Maybe worksheets aren’t your son’s best way to learn?
