My dog has been having a similar issue for a week or 2 now. She’s been acting normal and some days she eats every bite of all her meals and some days she barely touches it. If she’s acting normal, it shouldn’t be a huge concern, but maybe mention it to your vet. She could just not like the food anymore. But no dog has ever starved themselves so don’t stress too much.
I think it varies for each dog. My two dogs eat differently. One eats the entire meal, but the other only eats like half of her food most of the time. I’d say if your pups is still acting normally, then you’re fine, but if you really want to make sure, you can always ask your vet.
My dog got sick from eating pupperoni snacks and we took her to the vet. While there, I asked about her wet food diet and how sometimes she doesn’t eat at all so I was asking for recommendations for other wet dog foods. Vet said that if he were us, he’d move them back to kibble and while the transition can be really hard, that “hunger is a hell of a motivator”.
All that to say that if your dog isn’t starving but just has a decreased appetite, then she should be fine. Just keep monitoring her and even check her feces to see if you notice anything weird. If not, she’s fine.
1. She may be tired of the food.
2. She may be experiencing her first menstrual cycle. My dog also ate half of her food when she hit puberty for the first time.
