My benefits page shows that the before tax contribution and Roth 401k contribution can both be matched by my company (up to 6%) which do I choose ? I thought Roth wasn't matched?

I thought 5500 only applies to Roth IRA?

like

The 5500 limit applies to IRAs, not 401k

like

5500 is the cap for Roth IRA. ACN matches 1:1 in 401K or Roth 401K after 1yr beginning on Jan1 or Jul1 (so it may be more than a year before math starts). Both 401K types are capped at 18000. Roth = after taxes vs. traditional 401K pre taxes. Roth is good if your future tax bracket will be higher than your current. (Pay less tax now than you would later.) I assume you're still taxed on gains, either way.

like

Company matches will always be to traditional bucket. No matter the company.

6% total match

like

This might sound dumb but I thought you could only contribute a max of 5500 a year to your Roth so where does this matching fit into that?

Roth

Okay so my Roth 401k and before tax 401k are through my company and they get matched. My Roth IRA has a cap of 5500 and is not through my company

If I put 6% into my Roth 401k and 6% into my before tax 401k, do both get matched or is it up to 6% total.

Put 12% in your Roth 401k. Accenture will match 6%, but they will put it into your traditional 401k.

Your employee contributions to your 401k (either Roth or traditional) can be a combined 18k. If you are early in your career I would recommend putting all of your contributions into your Roth 401k. Accenture will put matching contributions into a traditional 401k. If you can max your Roth 401k by putting 18k into it, and you still want to put more money away, you can contribute another 5500 into your Personal Roth IRA (which you would open on your own through an online brokerage like vanguard).

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage. I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest. Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

Just switched jobs. Old 401k has more than $5k and new 401k is with a different provider. Is there any reason whatsoever to move the old 401k cash anywhere, either to the new 401k or to an IRA? Given that it's more than $5k, it can stay there indefinitely, right? I'm fine with the investment options with my old 401k. And I can transfer it over to a new IRA or new 401k anytime, even years in the future, right? Given that no distribution will come to force the 60 day rule?

Is this reasonable or am I missing something? I started maxing my 401k from year 1 and I hope to have $5 million or more by the time I retire around 60. Wouldn’t it make sense to put all of my yearly $19,500 401k contribution to ROTH 401k instead of traditional 401k? My reasoning is that I would pay 35% tax now and my remaining 65% would grow tax-free in ROTH 401k…. versus traditional 401k where I deposit 100% but every distribution will be taxed 35% assuming I make a lot in retirement.
