Nope. Nothing wrong with that. Will likely have to pay the signing bonus back
It’d be unethical to take it *knowing* he was only planning to stay 2 months.
He will probably owe back his signing bonus.
But nothing wrong with taking it knowing *maybe* something else is coming soon. Finding another job soon after finding a job is a thing that happens. As long as he doesn’t go in intending to break any promises to anyone, it is what it is...
(Edited to add: seniority of the role matters a bit here, if it’s a partner offer at Big4 they will be pretty salty)
I agree with P1. I’d say sign both. It’d only be unethical if you already signed and knew you were leaving, then slacked off for 2 months to get the pay before starting new job.
What happens if he says no to B4, then doest get the FAANG job?
Yes, but who cares?
Nope
We took an offer back from someone for doing that. High chance faang will do the same if they find out
That’s savage—in case they ended up with no job in the end.
He is a playing a risky game...... i dig it, i like this guy
If he doesn’t have a job he should take big 4 one. The fang job may not work out , not due to his skill sets or but could be something bizarre ( momentary hiring freeze in that dept. , someone else got hired before him, etc). If he gets in Big4 and leave he can say fang process started earlier and he didn’t know what would be the outcome. We all know a bird in hand is worth more. Good luck to both of you.
It happens. When people are looking for jobs they are often in multiple processes at the same time. If he will get a decision from FAANG in a couple of weeks, he should ask for time to decide with B4 - and could be open about the situation if they feel comfortable.
If it’s more than two weeks, maybe work a slightly later start date to buy time and avoid having to quickly resign. Don’t discuss the other opportunity until there’s something to share in this scenario.
Thank you :) P1: no promises made but I just don’t want him to burn bridges - you never know who you’ll meet again.
Pwc2: then hes back to being jobless. He has been on a 6 month break.
Not if it’s handled right.
OP mate if he is jobless he MUST take the B4 job.....and if FAANG comes through its a great problem to have, he can make a final decision then.
Why must he take the b4 job?
LEK what would handling right entail?
PWC2: I told him just that, but he thinks once he gets into consulting it will be so time consuming that he won’t get to do anything else, leave alone interview and prep for his dream org. 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah interviewing and prepping for dream job will be a pain. It’s worth the risk mitigation though. Prepare him to have no life on weekends to prep and take some PTO pre-interview to prep.
