Hi fishes,I have around 5.2 yrs of hands on exp in data engg. and able to clear service based companies interviews easily.Now I want to switch to product based companies as I am looking for some good work,good salary but I am not really strong in dsa as it's not part of my daily work.I don't really use trees and graphs as part of my daily work.
How shall I switch to product based companies considering DSA is their 1st round itself.what level of DSA can I expect from companies for data engineer position?

My suggestion, for what it’s worth, is to figure out what you have to have to make the move, add 15%, and start negotiating there. The important thing to remember, regardless of how friendly your boss may be, is that in your boss’s business role, you are a resource to be acquired/maintained at a cost, and it’s good business to keep costs low. Some bosses are better at compartmentalizing their identities better than others. If she’s good at keeping her business role separate from her personal life, there won’t be any issue at all in negotiation regarding the work relationship.
It’s incredibly important for me to understand my role as a resource and properly value my own time. I sat for years in a stagnant role with a wrongheaded idea of work relationships. I had good supervisors, and a mix of other bosses and business owners. My main talent is eliminating redundant work. I have specific skill sets, some of them unique and valuable in my industry, but my real value is in my hatred of tedious, boring, and unnecessary work. It’s a kind of laziness. But once I identified it, I saw myself in a whole new light and it has changed my ability to negotiate. Speak the company’s language when you negotiate and let your interviewer know, subtly, that their job is to acquire you at the lowest price. Your lowest price should be well above theirs. Just don’t ask for $2 million if you know your value isn’t anywhere close.
What are you trying to accomplish? Do you want to avoid moving or do you want more compensation in return for moving?

Relocation costs should be paid for 100%. That means moving your family, things, car, etc.
Your job before accepting is looking up the cost of living for your new location. How much will it cost to commute, are there other incrementals because of the move? For example, will you have to relocate kids that will need to be in private school? Is gas more expensive, rent, homes? Will you need to drive vs living in an area where you won’t need to drive? Also, look into asking about a severance in your new contract cause if they no longer need you for whatever reason( things happen) you will need money to move back. I agree about the severance part. The part I disagree with is if they move and don’t like it, that’s not on the company.
Plus severance is a tricky one to ask for since it’s in the future, not now. Most employees in the US are hired at will, meaning there is no contract so long term guarantees are not a thing in employment (I don’t know where in the world OP works). You should definitely ask about it, but you should ask about it regardless of whether you move or not. Getting fired can happen whether you move or not.
I agree w the others just base all of your higher compensation asks w facts and details related to the relo to the extent you can. Just asking for more money w/out support could look opportunistic and petty
If moving is not not your ideal, do you have other roles in your current location that you're interested in?
I don't think you have to negotiate "hard." It sounds like you have a good relationship. I would just be open and honest about what you need in order to make the move.
