My boss is bringing in another attorney who does the same work as me to our company. It is slow as is. I am concerned about what I will have to work on when he does this. It is a stable company, so I am not worried about job stability. Should I just make known my concerns that work volume is low, so why are they hiring someone else? I don’t want to lateral. I like the people despite there not being much work to do. Please let me know your thoughts on how I should approach this.

I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?

Has anyone ever encountered the objection to being promoted based on number of years out of law school vs meritocracy ie only those that are X number of years out of school get to be Senior Counsel , AGC, DGC etc? At a biglaw firm now, in the final round for a FAANG product counsel role. I just learned that one of the partners at the firm is involved in a big case adverse to the company I’m interviewing at. I have not worked on the case. Do companies run conflicts checks, do ethical walls, etc.? Could this be a problem if I get an offer?

Asking as product counsel for tech startup.

Applying for some in-house M&A jobs, and a big focus is being able to run deals. I of course feel very comfortable running deals from the corporate side and managing multiple teams, but have obviously always had an army of specialists in biglaw. How does this work in house? I’m primarily thinking from a tax perspective — I likely wouldn’t be able to structure a deal (and don’t think many of my peers could either) since we always rely on a tax team, but not sure if that is an expectation.

How long can you take to accept an offer? I received a forma offer today and have one more interview with another company for another position that I’m considering. I expect that the other company will let me know if they plan to make an offer by the end of the week. I am seriously considering both and want to give each a chance. Is a week acceptable to accept an offer?
