Google her name for baby registry

What about amazon gifts card or grub hub or uber eats? Something that can be used later on to order takeout during the first few months?

Second this idea. Gift cards are great for the parents.

Nordstrom sells piggy banks which they will customize with the baby’s name in-store. Those are usually my go-to gift and people seem to love them.

Get more off the registry or gift card. Mom of 2 here and generally don't want other people's sentimental gifts. Really appreciate it when someone gives what I want/need, not what they think is cute.

Cont’d: I have already bought a baby monitor off of her registry but have left over budget. Looking to add something else! (~$40-70)

like

A backpack diaper bag. You can find a good one on Amazon, if someone hasn’t gifted her one already.

like

Definitely gift cards are great, especially amazon. You could also do something for her, maybe a mani/pedi. Would be good before or after baby.

Not sure where you’re based, but a gift card to Aire baths in NY/Chicago goes down a storm

Personalized book, Christmas ornament, or decor on Etsy!

EY1: already did and we are getting a baby monitor she listed but I have leftover budget so would like to add something else!

Gift cards! Since you already got something off the registry gift cards are next best. I remember once my kiddo came I realized I needed stuff I didn’t know I needed before and we had so many amazon boxes at our house the first couple weeks so she probably doesn’t know what all she actually needs til baby comes

SNACKS. A delicious bag of whole food lovely snacks. Snacks snacks snacks.

How much extra do you have?

Baby books! Or food delivery $$

So I started a new job in March and also got pregnant the same month. The new job is at a small firm and they never had a pregnancy so they do not have policies in place. Who do I tell? There’s one head admin person, two named partners one of which is generally MIA. So nervous about it.

How do people feel about continuing to send money for the war. I 100% support Ukraine but we are providing so much more than the entire EU and we have our own problems at home. I feel for Ukraine but how about using that $40b to fly baby formula here if they are getting stuck on ships. Or programs for the homeless or drug abuse. Why can’t we expect EU to match us and really contribute more given it’s their backyard. We can’t be the bank for all wars.

I’m at the point that I start trembling every time I get an email alert. It’s the little things piling up that is getting to me. The to do list full of, “send emails to X about Y,” “follow-up re this,” “revise the 100 small things the baby lawyer drafted.” Tasks that might take 15 minutes to an hour individually, but all together it’s a lot. I’m the bottle neck. I’m the one who needs to move these things along. But there’s always something bigger and more urgent. Nothing’s ever FINISHED.

Do non-FAANG tech companies typically require a minimum tenure before allowing a person to take maternity leave? I'm hoping to start a new job this year and to have a baby at the end of 2023/early 2024, and I'm wondering if I need to worry about the timing of it to earn maternity leave.

Today is my first day back at work (and first full day back in my physical office) after a few weeks off for parental leave. Needless to say, I am struggling to stay focused on anything other than wanting to go back home to my spouse and child. I know I shouldn't take an emotional temperature on day one, but it has been more difficult being back than I anticipated. Any tips for navigating the waters for the first day/week/month back?

Great quote form Mimi Slater of @cosbar on motherhood and work: “I don’t think my career path has changed because I became a mother. But, I think my approach to work has changed for the better. I didn’t realize how hard it would be to leave a 12-week-old at home, but I’m so glad I forced myself to get to work in those early days. It took me a while to get back into the swing of things, but now I think that being a mother is a total asset in the workplace. I don’t waste a minute of my workday. I’m better at juggling priorities, and I think I’m more empathetic, certainly towards other working parents.”

Deloitte leadership is acting like a baby who wants the lollipop. I agree that working from an office has its advantages. But, post WFH era, they need to understand that people love and want that flexibility of working from any location. I mean calling employees back to base location is just gonna cost well being of some employees. Those who want to work from office should feel comfortable working from office. Same should be for those who are more productive with WFH option.
