My case team is all American except me (Canadian), Partner wants to collocate in New York and told us to book travel plans and hotel. Any more seasoned Canadian consultants can help answer if I need a work visa?

You can get a TN visa at Pearson, just let the US customs agent know. Ask your HR / admin for how to prepare for the interview.

Okay will email HR to figure it out - thanks for the steer all!

FYI I don’t think they can force you if you say you aren’t comfortable with it

How long are you going for? If it’s just a couple of days, you can say you’re going a meetings and just do the regular B1. Don’t even really need anything extra for that

If going for this route just keep in mind when speaking with customs that with B1 you’re not allowed to actually “work” in the US.

like

Getting a visa that allows you to work would be ideal and least hassle. You can go with B1 but you need to make sure you have the right talk track when questioned. If you are going to be travelling back and forth, they will start prying into it more. I have had US immigration ask about client name, type of work I do, why company was paying to have me just sit in on the meeting for so many days etc. Company eventually processed visa cause most of the team travelling from Canada was getting grilled.

You don’t need a TN visa for collocating in the US. Just go for a B1 visa and say you have to attend one-off business meetings in the US.
