Hi all,
I have two campus EY Deloitte on the table from Deloitte Tax (BTS), and EY Tax (DSG). Both are located in the SF Bay Area. Deloitte is paying 2k higher base and a 2k higher bonus.
I have to make my decision by the end of next week, so I’d appreciate some input and opinions on which offer I should take.

Recommend you do team building activities during work hours. We did a virtual escape room which was a ton of fun. My company is global so we had two times lots that you could pick the one that worked best for your working hours
If the company truly values team camaraderie, they can schedule these events during the day. Employee engagement events that are during your personal time only serve to promote workplace cults, not culture. Stand firm.
I have a global team and this is a a frequent challenge for us - how to build connection across many timezones. Here’s some things we consider in our team and may give you ideas on how to approach with your manager;
- Alternate or rotate the time of the social meetings to make more inclusive
- Share if the social gatherings are optional so people do not feel pressured to attend very early or very late
- host two+ meetings for big announcements or get together, different timezones giving others choice also
Lastly, I would suggest if at all possible to attend one or a couple of these events - building relationships is paramount to building trust. Working remotely I’ve found the more time I’ve invested in building relationships the better outcomes our team has.
Thank you for sharing these great suggestions. I agree attendance is important and I have so far. I’m hoping to expand the times in which we do meet. I love the idea of alternating times.

+1 to doing activities during work hours. We usually do ours at 1pm PT/4pm ET, so that those who live on the East Coast are finished by 5pm.
My team is also remote I am Eastern but we have a few Pacific Time as well. We have 15 minute "water coolers" twice a week where we are not allowed to discuss work but anything else, we also try to have 1 virtual lunch or happy hour a month. Though we also have zoom meetings every day with 20 minutes to talk about different issues we are having to see if anyone has advice then we all sit on mute working on our own things knowing that if we get stuck we can unmute and have people to help - trying to make it like an in office setting. With all if these our team is very close and we have bonded very quickly. Hope you guys get there too!!
“Social” time is not a necessity even in the days of pre-COVID when you’d have to attend these things in person. I would be honest that you could maybe do these remote sessions sparingly but you won’t be able to attend them all due to personal circumstances. What those personal circumstances are is no companies business either and if you feel hard pressed to answer them you may want to consider this company all together. Just my two cents.
Are there more folks on your team that are also ET and did anyone on ET agree to work other time zones? I’d recommend approaching as an FYI for your manager and offering to do other hours that will be more productive to building that team mentality. If their goal is to build positive relationships they won’t accomplish that by scheduling at bad hours and where people won’t be in the frame of mind to make it worthwhile.
What ever you do, don’t miss all of them. It is important to attend as many as you can. While I understand that it may be hard to attend all, it does not look good if you skip these. When they had to downsize my team, they picked the ones that did not go to happy hours or company events. If you can convince your team to do it during work time, I would say no harm in asking.
