My company has offered me to move to sales operations from sales and i am accepting the offer only cuz they give unrealistic targets to achieve each month ...i am trying to figure out what sort of career path i could build.
any suggestions would be helpful.

What do you want long term? This is a trade off.

Pros for Sales:
- Much higher comp upside due to sales bonus & commissions (eg, many Enterprise Sales reps make $300k+ and top sellers make $1M+).
- In addition to comp upside, you get the satisfaction of helping clients solve their business problems (which is why they buy in the first place).

Cons for Sales:
- You are only as valuable as the last big deal you closed, and low performers are managed out.
- Paychecks are not as predictable since most of the upside is from bonus & commissions after closing deals.
- You are always grinding to find the next big deal.

Pros for Ops:
- Stable paychecks since your comp is not based on closing deals.
- More visibility into over-arching, cross-functional company initiatives, and not just working on client-specific deals.

Cons for Ops:
- You don’t get comp upside if the team crushes sales goals, and although higher level Ops roles can make $300k+, it is impossible to make $1M+ in an Ops role unless you are SVP Ops at a big company.
- Ops is usually a lean headcount dept/function, so in order to make a career out of Ops you are “competing” against other Ops members for scarce opportunities & promotions.

After 1 year in consulting I have realized this is not for me. I want to move to a software development role. I studied computer science and have done side projects to keep my skills sharp. My question is if I should start applying now to entry level jobs, or if it would be valuable to wait 1-2 years to get promoted and then start looking for more advanced roles?

I’m seeking a promotion from L2 to L3 by EOQ1 2023. I’ve set the expectation over the past year and my manager keeps saying “within the next year,” “within the next year.” By the next promotion cycle, I will have been in this role for a year and a half. I am the most junior on my team but I feel I’m consistently delivering better and faster than my senior colleagues. Not to mention my RSUs are drowning and I’m the most tenured at the company on my team. Tips on navigating this?

How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

Looking for some advice on a couple of offers I have.

The first offer is for an Account Executive position at a smaller company with a base of $50k and another $20k in OTE.

The second offer is for a BDR position at a larger and faster growing company with a base of $60k and another $20k in OTE. Also some stock options but they aren’t public yet.

I have 2 YOE as a BDR and think I could succeed in either position. Both have hybrid work set ups. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated! Thanks.
