Work is everything that has to do with the use of office time, even if it is a voluntary meeting, it must be paid for as it falls within working hours.
Yes!
Yes. Technically it illegal in some states to not get paid for working off the clock.
I'll check if it's legal cause I'd rather not be here if at all possible lol
I think that if you do that you will bother more than one person, it is preferable that you ask to leave during the party for reasons of time, say that the train gets very full or something like that.
I haven't seen anyone leave early from one so I'm thinking it's one of those mandatory voluntary parties
You shouldn't, whatever it is, it's a management that the company has with you, rather try to improve the environment yourself, you'll appreciate it.
Just feels like I'm not getting paid to be at work, is that normal?
You should ask if you are still in the office, obviously, it is something that is regulated, therefore it must be paid, ask your immediate boss before going to higher levels.
"voluntary" but mandatory? If so, they must be paid hours for everyone, since they do not have the option of leaving the office, surely if they need them to work during that meeting they will have to do it.
that's what I'm thinking, i'll ask around and see what others around here think
You should check if they are really voluntary and if so, you are free to stop assisting.
If they're not you bet I'm never coming to one of these again haah
Extra time at work will require extra pay depending on contract requirements
