My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.
I would be honest about actively prioritizing DEI and making strides to improve. That's transparent and therefore compelling. Do you have to include photos? If not, then maybe skip that so it's not a sea of white faces when applicants check out your team page.
I agree being transparent about our goals. We do want to update the pictures online to improve our careers page and give a sense of the great culture we have. We have an awesome team and want it to be seen and also encouraging for minority individuals to feel welcome and that they are getting an opportunity to work for a company that values diversity and equity.
Have you considered adding more diverse people photos to your website? Or starting a gender-balance/diversity inclusion hiring initiative?
That’s what I’m trying to do, but wasn’t sure to go about asking for pictures. We have been working on our hiring, I’d say probably at least 50% of our new hires are from a diverse background.
