I really recommend a minimum 12 weeks paid maternity leave for mothers giving birth..that’s a bare minimum for a lot of top organizations and honestly is still low. 4-6 weeks paternity leave (or parental leave for parents not giving birth) is a lot of what I’ve seen and similarly, anything above that is awesome!
I agree. This is the bare minimum!
I also suggest you use the language “parental leave” to be inclusive of the families having babies who are not a mother/father combination.
Yikes. 6 weeks unpaid is antiquated. That’s good you’re looking to improve the maternity and parental leave. Minimum 12 weeks paid would be my recommendation as well.
Agree with the other comments. This Mercer post has some parental leave benchmarking data that may be a good starting point. Credible source to hopefully get push leadership to improve the parental leave benefit... 6 weeks unpaid is really below benchmark and disappointing to hear. If your company has a H&W broker, you could reach out to them for additional benchmarking too if needed.

I’m in a small company what is an HW broker
Personally, I would look to some European companies/benefits (or news around it) to get some inspo. They definitely offer far better and more comprehensive coverage compared to the US
Non US organisation here but at a minimum we do 4 months paid maternity leave and 2 weeks paid parental leave.
I agree. It's the first three months after childbirth that's just as crucial. It would be nice if even the father is allowed 2 months off after delivery.
Just recently learned that Ph amended it's paid leaves increasing maternity leave to 105 days but the paternity leave is paid for 7 days for the first four deliveries. I think we can adopt and better the policy. I think 2 weeks of paid paternity leave seems like a good incentive,
