Can I ask for an agile promotion as a SM1?
Hi, I joined pwc AC early last year as a fresher in tech consulting Fortunately I have landed in a good project, did the best i could Got a tier 1 rating in last cycle This year snapshots have been great too Feedback from engagement team has been good🤞 Can I pursue for asking a promotion this midyear Current role : Associate 2 PwC PwC India Pwc AC
Bain & Company What is the likelihood of making SAC in September 2022 if I join as an AC on April 18th at Bain & Company? I am a senior consultant at EY with 3.5 years of experience in Data Analytics. Or is March 2023 more realistic? They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.

How did you make it this far OP? This is what a fresher out of undergrad would ask
Lol OP I know you're a manager posing as your counselor
I think your counselee should help you articulate this
SC1 - If you think this is an easy answer, you are probably less versed in how our firm works than you think. Promotion to SM is highly ambiguous, and way beyond metrics/networking. I made SM two years ago, and had to craft a story around my brand, which was unique to me. This is my attempt at crowd sourcing, what other people's experience are
I am so confused. If you are a SM you should ask yourself what it took you to get promoted!
OP, you should consider asking a different question. since we can't possibly know your counselee's key attributes or brand design, your question should be focused on how others identified their attributes and crafted their brand identity
Feel like SM is pretty well defined: selling (creating new business and follow on), delivering projects (incl driving project objectives and building client relationships), and building good teams (including relationships with peers and subordinates). Something I'm missing?
Also, as a second yr SM you're not doing a Manager on deck any favors by being his counselor 🙂
What level are you? SM or PPMD?
A1 - Everyone has had a different experience. This is my attempt at crowd sourcing. My way, may not work for my counselee
This gives me anxiety that you, as a career counselor, need to look here for what to tell your counselee
Wow the trolls are out today. @OP... I would say you should focus on presenting where he stands in regards to SM metrics as a manager (meeting/ exceeding etc) and determine what his value proposition is. What are his unique qualifications? What existing stream of business is he well positioned to lead, what new stream of business can he help grow, What relationships can he help deepen ?
Isn't all the info you need in the very specific template they have to fill out. I think others have it covered, but also, who are their PPMD champions? I would expect to have buy in and support from a number of them and basically know they will get promoted going into the session
Value prop went away in favor of panel interviews this year....which have already happened. So at best you Counselee can get promoted next year

What does your counselee do and what are they good at OP
OP great post for sharing. I know this as I was trying to build story around my case as well. Of course his USP is important. His USP needs to resonate with client as well. So not only has you and him claiming he is great client agrees to that as well. Thats one. We also need points around practice building. His visibility is also important. How far in the food chain people know him? Proven track record of sales.
Which practice are you on? Tech, S&O, HC?
Fishbowl is not kind to anyone.
