My current goal is to work in audit for a few years and then get a related forensics degree & the CFE then switch over to forensics at my firm. Any thoughts for how long I should be in audit before making the switch? Context: I really enjoy my job so far and am about to move to staff 2.
As an internal transfer you’ll probably have to wait til senior regardless. So do that if you want to stay at EY. That said, the EY forensics people on this app make it sound like their forensics practice is hardly even real forensics and definitely doesn’t pay like forensics, so it may be worth looking into switching firms if that’s what you want to pursue. If you do that you might as well switch as soon as possible so you can learn as much as you can as early as you can
I agree, I’d say get your CPA and move over ASAP if switching firms. On my team if you moved over as an audit senior you’d likely get offered an associate role anyways.
You don't need a Forensics degree to do forensics. Get your CPA then take the CFE exam. As some others said, best to wait until you're at least a senior. That will show you know how to document your work and basics of what goes into financial statements, how internal controls work in a variety of clients, and transaction/documentation analysis.
We’re always hiring in our investigations group if you’re interested. No need to wait until staff 2 or 3 if you know what you want to do!
Inforensics I should add
Wait til you make senior + have your CPA (this is what I did)
CFE doesn’t help much (or at all). Get your CPA and move.
If you transfer over as a Senior 3, you might not make Manager in a year since you won’t have enough Forensics experience. My personal suggestion is after you transfer over as a Senior 1 or Senior 2.
Do you know what locations you’re trying to fill
I work at FTI as well and I think we are hiring pretty much everywhere. DM me if you want a referral
No need for a degree in forensics. CPA is a must and CFE can be obtained after you move jobs. We love to hire people with 2-3 years of audit experience!
DM me if you’re interested in FTI
What interests you about forensics? What projects are you hoping to get staffed on?
Also. No additional degree needed.
