I don't believe you can extend the I94 without a fresh entry into the US. And we all know what that entails :)
You don’t need to do anything apart from getting the physical copy of the I797 approval.
New I-94 with extension is new number issued with approval notice. However new I-94 issued with transfer petition is the same number(as per cbp last entry record - expires in 2 months). Does that change anything? If I join new employer, I’ll be joining with the same I-94 number that expires in 2 months or Am I missing something here?
You don't have to do anything. Your new i797 which has the new i94 should be sufficient. I was in the same situation. Your attorney will also confirm the same info.
Look at the new i94 expiration date. That should be different
You mean online i94?
But then howcome my transfer petition has same number whereas extension that happened later had different? Also, if the number is same, do I need to apply for I-94 extension or its already done based on approval dates and when I depart and re-enter, I can show approval notice from new employer?
Does the e-approval say anything about the consulate?
Yes better to check the #on ecopy

If you have a new I-94 issued with your extended petition, then you can stay in the US up to the new date noted on your new I-94. Your online I-94 gets updated either when you re-enter the country, or if you visit the deferred inspection site typically located at one of the major international airports across the country and the immigration/CBA officer will update that by looking at your new I-94. You can call the deferred inspection site for more details
