My current lease is up next May when I’ll be coming up on 2 years with my firm and getting close to promotion. I’m thinking about asking to work from home permanently when my lease is up so I can move to a LCOL area and be closer to family. Would working remote hurt my chances for promotion?

Kissing ass

I think COVID has been the great leveler proving you don’t have to be in a place to provide value!

I've asked myself this same question. I suppose it depends on what you value more, personal life or work success. That's not to say you can't have both, but you may have to prioritize one over the other. FWIW, I'm moving to a LCOL area this winter, but still plan to do an occasional office visit paired with conference/networking events. Have to stay somewhat relevant.

That’s a good point. I’m married and have two kids, so that will always take priority over work. I’d certainly still be happy to go into the office once a month or so or when there are large staff meetings.

Your window of opp for this is now until next May. You’re going to be a year late. Sub lease your place now and move immediately. No your firm will not let you do that in one year from now.

When we start traveling again, I’m excited that I’ll be one of the few willing to do what it takes to get face time with clients. There’s going to be a hugh advantage to anyone who does. Having the attitude of “I’m going to work remotely forever” likely will not age well.

What an absolute hardo. Do you think most clients are raging to be in the office to see our consultant asses?

I can honestly say that working from home these last few years has been the best thing that’s happened to my career as a producer. I never realized how distracting being in an office was. Now, I actually can focus on bidding, scheduling, reviewing contracts, and all of the stressful parts of production WITHOUT having to factor in code switching and a commute. I left my agency producer role for a fully remote producing role and I’m just….thrilled. Anyone else refuse to go back to office? 😩

Leave for another consulting firm even tho I’m up for promotion in a few months at my current firm? Pros of leaving are better work life balance, not stuck in one industry, minimal travel.
