Florida is like a 10% pay raise due to no state taxes, cheaper rent, and better weather...no reason not to go, aside from nyc based relationships.
As long as your comp isn’t being adjusted doesn’t hurt to try out Florida. If comp is being adjusted might want to reconsider.
Sometimes when you move somewhere with a lower cost of living, comp is decreased. For example, was offered the same job in LA vs Seattle. LA offer was 75k, seattle was 65k
I imagine the quality of life in NYC with a $65k salary is a stark contrast to what you’d experience in FL
65k in nyc is like poverty
Give Florida a shot. NYC isn’t going anywhere. If you hate it in a year or two you come back. I know someone who reluctantly made the switch and now loves it - has fabulous apartment, better commute, more savings in the bank. She’s in Jacksonville.
Wouldn’t the transition back to NYC (if I don’t like Florida) be difficult though?
Your salary would go much further in FL
65k in Florida is super comfy. 65k in NYC, not so much. As long as comp isn’t being adjusted I would go to Florida. Just the taxes you’ll save alone is HUGE. Miami is fun if that’s where you’re headed. Tampa is also a great city. I’m originally from Florida and now live in seattle due to work. As much as I love New York and many of my friends are from there, the city and state are in very tough situations financially and it won’t be the same for a while.
Have to agree with IB1. Also from Jupiter/PBG. WPB’s a cool city & nice to experience but it can sometimes be very slow. And nightlife isn’t super special. But could just be my opinion given that i grew up here. Also doesn’t hurt that FL is basically covid free rules rn so if you wanna have fun that’s the place rn
