How can I use points but ensure that they get upgraded to a suite? My dad specifically requested a separate living room and bedroom

You can find the suite pricing here -https://m.starwoodhotels.com/mobile/preferredguest/account/starpoints/redeem/upgrades.html?language=en_US But this is pre August 1. Not sure what will happen in a month.

If you must have a suite, you can book a suite with points. It’s usually 1.5-2x the cost of a standard room

If you can't do it through points to guarantee, call or email the manager and explain the occasion. There is room for them to have discretion for those kind of situations and at the very least they will do something nice for them to greet them and celebrate the occasion when they arrive

If you have an ambassador email them the details and they will take care of it with the hotel. I did something similar for my sister last yearband it went smoothly.

Also congrats on your parents being so young!!
