I would say it is safe if both a doctor approved it and a pharmacist approved it to be filled...
It was neither snarky nor unhelpful. You asked if it was safe?

Honestly of course the doctor and pharmacist know it won't kill you...and I have zero medical expertise
But I suggest you treat whatever is causing the acne, like by changing your diet, exercise, stress, or anything natural you can come up with (like "don't wear makeup") off of real medical advice before resorting to the pill cocktail

I do believe diet is important and I believe “internet tips” work for a lot of people, and should generally be followed. These *can* make an impact for some people.
The point I’m making is that it does not work for *all*. There are people who could do literally every internet tip ever provided, and still have acne. In those cases, an antibiotic treatment is a perfect solution and shouldn’t be inappropriately rejected (FYI they come as topical or pills, including clindamycin which is a topical antibiotic (@Acc1 for literally proving the point of the efficacy of antibiotics)).
Telling someone to avoid antibiotics just bc “changing my diet” worked for you, is not extremely helpful. Overall conclusion: everyone is different and if OP already met a dermatologist and is at the point of antibiotics, there is no reason to discourage or shame them from doing so.
I’ve tried all three as well! I thought doxy worked the best for me personally when used for a short period of time. I went off of birth control because it caused melasma to form on my face, which is nearly impossible to reverse and is worse than any acne I had before! Or is at least more frustrating. I would suggest getting a blood test with a hormone panel and then focusing on that. What I didn’t like with these pills (other than melasma) is that you obviously can’t take those when trying to get pregnant, and while I’m not trying right now, I will eventually and didn’t want to have this rebound effect once I came off of them. I slowly weaned myself off of them and started trying to address the underlying causes instead which has worked great!
What did you do to address the underlying causes?
I was put on all. I was prescribed yaz but I don’t think it helped much. I still had cystic breakouts with both spiro and doxy (not at the same time) but was much less than if I didn’t take them. Plus I didn’t want to keep taking them long term. My last resort was accutane which made my face clear. I wished I’d taken them sooner because the side effects weren’t that bad for me - dry eyes/skin/lips and some muscle aches. Skin has been pretty clear, except for some occasional zits, since I last took it 2 years ago.
I was put on doxy 6 months ago and cleared up immediately but then it slowly started coming back. My derma then a month ago put me on birth control and now that’s working wonders. Hoping these results last!
IMHO and experience look at your diet first - western medicine docs operate in a silo and always go drugs first and functional medicine will help you get to the root of the problem. Though it won’t likely be covered by insurance, you’re better off long term.
