I equate arranged marriages these days to parents setting you up on a date. It’s not like you are forced to marry the girl. You get to know each other with the intention of seeing if the relationship will work in the long term. I’ve had friends that are both arranged and “love” marriage and each has the same ups and downs. Just keep in mind when you both are talking to each other, it’s not for casual dating, but for long term/serious dating to could potentially turn into something else. Best wishes on your venture.

Marriage is a unique life time experience where your ego will be rubbed at times and you mature irrespective of how you decide to start together. The major differnce is trust, commit first and discover later for the arranged marriage vs discover first and commit layer for love marriage. Overall both works for a desi family and 90%+ are OK and better than being alone based on what I saw in the last 25 years in USA.

Anecdotally I have seen almost as many arranged marriages flame out as love marriages. I think it really boils down to the people involved and the unique chemistry between them.

It all boils down to who you end up with and do you grow together or grow apart? Mine was love marriage but ended in divorce after 6 years.. no hard feelings just that we grew apart.. no hard feelings just that things change over a period of time like mindset, career goals, financial goals, etc.

My dad tried hard to push for an arranged marriage because the woman’s father was a millionaire and he wanted the money. He backed off after I said that I’d disown him.

It’s funny until you go through the experience of a parent attempting to force a major life decision with huge consequences if something goes wrong all because they want someone’s money.

I mean I knew there would be challenges but marriage adds another level of stress! It’s not just the living together part because l have previously lived with 2 of my exes and we didn’t have these issues, and when it was a lot of conflict it was easy to walk out ...

My friends had arranged marriages and I had love marriage (23 years back). Now looking back they are as happy as we are. Go for it if you find right girl and family

Well, I would happily just do anything to find a right woman. I used to think very low of arranged marriages, but I guess I was wrong.

Arranged marriages should be better, you discuss in details before you plan to move ahead, no strings attached. Better than dating where you struggle to read other persons mind...

I did, 2.5 years ago. My wife loves me very much and we care for each other very much. But our marriage was arranged only in the sense that they let us connect with each other. We hung out for another 6 months.got engaged , another 1 year and then marriage.

M here, recently opened up to the concept of arranged marriage and currently talking to someone I was recently introduced to. Major feelings of uncertainty and jitters, even though she seems pretty nice thus far.

F here in an arranged marriage. I do often wonder how different life would have been if I was in a love marriage. I have seen a few friends that had love marriage and they seem much closer and still in love after many many years. Im happy to converse over chat to share or discuss experiences.

Recruiter (in west coast) said on Monday he will provide an update later in the week if Im selected for a role I’ve been interviewing for the past 2 months. The wait is killing me. Called in sick because I was too anxious to do any work and lost all motivation. Should I reach out for an update now or wait til end of the day?

I've pulled out of my positions this week, and gone to 100% cash. Decided it was best for my mental health to stay out of the market until three election. I know that time in the market beats timing the market... But I've decided to do this anyways because I have a really strong gut feeling. Screw it.

Is it fair to say that your first/early job has a huge impact on the future of your career? Depending on the difficulty of the client and the project you’re able to make, that determines where you end up for mid level. Then that just snowballs. For example if you were at a well known agency, you’ll probably get noticed by other well known agencies. If you were at a client-driven agency people think you don’t have good ideas at all. Is it easy to switch trajectories? Am I nuts for thinking this?

Live in a 2 bed condo, 2 kids under 3, and in laws temporarily staying with us to help out. It’s impossible to WFH during the day. Stuck in a closet and my productivity is rock bottom. Any ideas for places outside the home I can work from during the day? Has anyone successfully convinced building security to let them into their office?
