First rule of negotiations, whoever speaks first loses. Don't give a number, ask them what their budget is. If they don't reveal, ask them what is a fair compensation according to you for this role and yoe. By this time they will probably give you a number or a range. If they still don't and they are asking you ,say this ' After understanding the full scope of the role and the value and experience I bring to your company, a fair compensation will be in the range of X to Y. Explain to them how you came to this number, you can say 'Based on market research I did through different sources and people working in your company x to y is the range in this area that comes up and I lie on the higher range side of this based on my experience.

In between conversation, call them out as well, you can say that 'I can understand your job is to hire people on the lower side of the budget as much as you can, but your job well done is not the number of offer letters released but the number of people who joined. If you make a good offer I would accept it right away and give you a joining confirmation as well(just to get the offer). Be diplomatic, not straight. It might feel really smart spitting truth but at the cost of losing on a potential opportunity. As they say, nobody likes a smartass.

Problem with such long overdrawn statements is it doesn't work for 95% of firms in India because they hire low level HR folks who joined the noble profession of HR because it's least demanding of corporate functions. These HRs only know one thing. Listen to the Current CTC and vomit the 30% hike number. They won't entertain other statements cos well 95% firms have 95% positions that are not niche. So they don't care. They'll lift another resume from Naukri and move on

My experience: (salary after taxes)
1.3 years - Business Development (Clinical Trails) - 25k in hand
1 year - Product Executive (Pharma) 35k in hand
1.6 years - Senior Business Development (IT Services) 48k in hand
Joining a new company - Implementation Specialist (SaaS Product) 1.1lacs in hand

My biggest jump was my recent one. I opened my mouth and to my surprise they agreed to it. I guess you just need to be confident and take a stance on your expectations.

Yup. Should work. All the best! ☺️ A lot of opportunities across Europe and Ireland as well

You are at least getting an opportunity to have a discussion with HR.

My convo is simple.
HR - Exp Salary
Me- 13-15 lpa,
HR - Ok Bye.

likefunnysmart

Don't give any range. Put them a figure straight away.

It works..atleast better than the range concept

like

Cts 27 lpa
Ibm 17+2 bonus
I asked the IBM manager while discussing the package that i have the offer amount of 27 lpa. So he replied that we are giving you a job that's enough for you. I was like woah...

likefunny

You should have asked ibm manager to try CTS 🤣

Bro I got 16 in 2 yoe.
And even got upto 20 but didn't join because of poor reviews
They will pay you as long as you have counter

like

Aah yes. 2 yoe. The sweet spot. So you're 24 year old something and getting paid similar salary as a 6 yoe at least 4 years back. Notic something wrong with that scenario? You're a pricey resource for the value you bring in. Wonder who gets cut when the company faces a tough financial round or revenue gaps. Don't blow your trumpet in public. Take caution when there is so much money to be offered. Make hay when sun shines, sure but prepare for a rainy day all the same.

like

I just tell them i want X amount and i have other options straightforward. then they start telling me why i should Join them, i tell them gimme this, i will join. Never settle for less.

like

For me, only 3 out of 15+ Companies i cleared all rounds for, asked for counter offer letters. Others were just asking me to join. I negotiated very less and demanded much more. Politely ofcourse:)

likeuplifting

My spouse has YOE 5.3 and current CTC 12.5lpa got an offer of 35 lpa Yesterday and even about to take a counter offer on it till 38 lpa. So, I would say there is nothing like a restricted hike %.

likehelpful

There is indeed a restriction on hike. A service company won't give that 35 to 40 offer. It's dependent on parity at that organization

My convo:

HR: position available for Devops
Me: which company?

This looks really the leaked conversation from Infy and TCS HRs
I heard one new way to lowball one HR said developers are not paid good in market 20-30 % salary height is max. This was said by HCL HR.

like

This was me with payu. I told that nobody with this much work experience willl be working in payu at 9LPA, i can guarantee you that. She said ofcourse we hire from IIT/NIT as well so their salary is obviously going to be high. I am from fucking NIT, wonder if she even read my resume or I don't know what she was on!😅

likefunny

Your expectations is totally fine and completely aligned with industry...don't switch for it look for alternative you will get a fair price

likesmart

People 10 : completely agree... Infact my two friend placed with 10 and 15lpa as freshers I know them very well they know noting much....and those are not faang or similar companies or startups .... Estimating salary based on current salary is very very bad tactics played by HR

like

By the way, my tech stack is SQL, Python and Tableau product suite.

like

Just add 20-30% of what you're expecting and shoot it. If you're expecting 100% hike , ask for 120-130%

like

This is what I do as well, If I want 10LPA, I will ask for 13 and come down to 11, HR is happy they brought my rate down, I am ecstatic that I got more than I expected....also, I don't budge once I have given a fair, final number, that seems to work for me....and I am ready to walk away from any company which shows in my expression so probably that helps as well 🤷‍♀️

likeuplifting

Get this offer letter at 50% hike and then keep that to negotiate with other companies. Otherwise most of the companies gonna consider your 6lpa salary only. And if you don't wanna join them with this compensation, then Don't join. Rejecting this offer won't be the right thing to do at this point.

like

Please keep trying for product based companies or good MNC..they pay beyond expectations too if ur good candidate..keep trying..All the best..you will surely make 20+

My current CTC - 3LPA, I got at last 10LPA. So, I got to know here, there is no cap for hikes in IT world. As long as you have counter offers, just go ahead and negotiate with them. Only the next thing you should consider is your preferred work and culture.

Good luck 🤞

Similar way I asked 14.5 because of out of state job. My package was 9 . I asked only stand hike to valuelabs. Valuelabs search for the candidates in mean while. At last 2 days of notice period they come with 18.5 plus additional bonus 1 lakh after 1months . I rejected the offer if Valuelabs as other company already offered 13.5 and i accepted They also sent seal package brand new laptop, which is product base company.
Cross offer blunder started by big companies . due to whivh Small Mid Scale companies suffered
