This individual has a doctorate in business with a focus in HR, her SPHR, Federal, and private sector experience at the singer level, and has a fabulous personality. Enrollment numbers are at an all-time low and expected to be even lower next year. Guess who will be the first to go? Elective teachers like me. But what about the funding we're supposed to be getting from the fed? Electives are never considered a priority.

How does everyone teach Thanksgiving? I have several First Nations People in my fourth-grade class and certain "history" lesson are uncomfortable to teach.

Suggestions needed: I have a student who loves to fold paper airplanes, you name it... He tries to do it all day long. He is a BD/LD student who usually refuses to do any work. Offering him time to fold the paper as an incentive does NOT work - he folds it regardless of whether he should or not. Can anyone think of a way I can use this skill/desire instructionally and to my advantage? (I have already given him instructions on using geometry to improve his airplanes.)

Is “Teacher Block” a thing, like “writers block”? I am working summer school for nonverbal kiddos and I swear I’ve never struggled more to think creatively and design fun and engaging activities.

It's my first year teaching self-contained special education. As I was organizing my materials/planning for next year I realized I will have many of the same students again. I'm trying to figure out how I can preserve/recycle some of my lesson plans if at all.

Just heard that we will be switching from remote learning to "blended learning" as opposed to "hybrid learning". What's the difference?

Called into the principal's office to discuss a parent's concern and was blindsided with accusations against me. I was "guilty", despite the fact I had previously documented and proven that this student twisted truths. I was not allowed to defend myself. Then I was told I was not a good fit for the school. I have been there for 13 yrs, 3 with this principal. Suddenly, I am accused of lacking empathy and told the students needed to be "protected" from me.
I don't know what just happened.

?? What do you know about para, aide hired to do the job in the school but is being pulled from that job and used as a sub. But not getting the sub pay! A sub gets paid sub pay with no college edu. and makes more money each day close to twice as much as my pay for a day. I have a Two yr college education along with other certs that a sub doesn't have nor is required to have, but I'm required to have them to be hired and hold the aide passion but then the sub makes more than aids. Any suggestions

What's a funny way to say you work with kids w/o actually saying it? Ex: I have to repeat directions at least 5 times.

Have any of you tried out the My Child Can Learn Curriculum with your kids? It used to be marketed as My Baby Can Read. If you did what did you all think of it? My English, Spanish, and French sets just came in the mail today and I’m excited to get started with it!

Should respect be EARNED or GIVEN? 🤔 Chime in.

I come from the European culture of education where teachers are highly respected - very much like in the Japanese society where teachers get the utmost respect, as high as if not even higher than doctors / surgeons.

Students stand up when the teacher enters the classroom, say “hello” when seen in the hallway, etc. Teachers are (or at least are expected to be) GIVEN the respect by students. Seems in the US respect has to be EARNED.

We have a new SEL inititaive at my school. I am embarrased to say I don't know what SEL is.
